The Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance (abbreviated NIWA) is a collaboration of a network of independent Nintendo-oriented wikis. The alliance was started in early 2010, and has since grown to contain 16 wikis as of January 1, 2010.

History

The Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance was started when Zelda Wiki.org, a wiki covering The Legend of Zelda series, sought affiliation with Bulbapedia, a wiki covering Pokémon, in January of 2010. A suggestion soon came after to create a network of independent Nintendo-oriented wikis. This suggestion was agreed upon and then implemented when Super Mario Wiki, a wiki about the Mario series, was contacted to be included on the board alongside Zelda Wiki and Bulbapedia. NIWA was finally launched on February 14, 2010.
