The Nintendo Power guide to the original Animal Crossing refers to Mabel and Sable as hedgehogs. They look more like hedgehogs than either New or Old World porcupines, as well. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that would override all that would be in-game evidence. Is there any dialogue in the game that specifically refers to them as porcupines? Porcupines?

The Nintendo Power guide to the original Animal Crossing refers to Mabel and Sable as hedgehogs. They look more like hedgehogs than either New or Old World porcupines, as well.
