'''Rocks ''' are objects that have appeared in every {{SER}} game. There are usually five to ten rocks in a player's town, and the rocks can be a single rock or be in clumps of two. Depending on the season, hitting a rock with a Shovel or Axe may result in a [[pill bug]], a [[centipede]] or a [[house centipede]] appearing; this is the only way of finding them. In [[winter]], rocks can have snow on top, though the mechanics of rocks do not change; this does not apply to {{NH|short}}.

In {{PG}}, {{WW}}, and {{CF}}, players can find a [[money rock]] around their town, which will produce [[Bell]]s when hit with a shovel or an axe. The player can hit the rock for eight times before the rock can no longer produce Bells. In {{PG}}, the rock will release up to 23,300 Bells as three sacks of 100, three sacks of 1,000, and two sacks of 10,000; in {{WW}}, the rock will release up to 8,500 Bells as sacks of 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000; and in {{CF}} onwards, the rock will spurt out up to 16,100 Bells as sacks of 100, 200, 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000, and finally 8,000.

In {{NL}}, if the player is wearing the Daily Lucky Item on a good money luck day, the money rock will release more Bells with each sack containing twice as many Bells as normal. Conversely, if the player is not wearing the Daily Lucky Item on a bad money luck day, the money rock will release less Bells with an extra 100 sack at the start that causes the last 8,000 Bell sack to not spawn. In the {{NLWa|short}} update, the player can also sit on rocks. This is the only time when sitting on rocks is possible.

In addition to money rocks, players are able to destroy "fake" rocks to produce [[ores]]. These can be given to [[Cyrus]] at [[Re-Tail]] to [[Furniture customization|customize furniture]] in different colors. If the player strikes a money rock with a silver shovel, it may produce ores instead of Bells.

On [[Bunny Day]], the town will produce ten such "fake" rocks, in addition to the one containing the ore, which can be broken to reveal Stone eggs to be taken to [[Zipper T. Bunny]].

In {{NH}}, a total of six rocks appear on the player's island, and all rocks except the money rock now release {{I|stone|New Horizons}}, {{I|clay|New Horizons}}, {{I|iron nugget|New Horizons}}s, and {{I|gold nugget|New Horizons}}s when hit, which can be used in various [[DIY]] recipes. Similar to money rocks, they must be hit consecutively in order for a maximum of eight items to be released. The player can only earn one gold nugget per day, after which any additional hits will only produce stone, clay, or iron nuggets. A special rock on certain [[mystery island]]s features a single rock with eight gold nuggets, while on the meteor shower [[boat tour]] island, a rock will give [[star fragment]]s. During [[Bunny Day]], {{I|stone egg|New Horizons}}s can also be produced.

Additionally, rocks can be broken when hit with an axe or shovel if the player has enough stamina (after eating [[edible|edible items]] such as fruits, mushrooms, turnips, or food), after which they'll produce a stone and will reappear in a random location the following day. However, a rock cannot spawn close to a natural barrier (beach, water, [[cliff]]s), furniture, [[shrubs]], [[fences]], dropped items, [[flowers]], or a placed [[custom design]]. Tall structures like buildings or [[trees]] can also prevent a rock from spawning. Multiple rocks can be broken in a single day, but only one rock will respawn the following morning until there are six rocks on the island.

[[Katrina]]'s [[luck|fortunes]] can determine any changes made to the player's rates at hitting and breaking rocks on their own island. If the player gets a good money luck, they will have a higher chance of earning gold nuggets when hitting rocks, while having bad money luck results in the player earning no gold nuggets. This also applies when breaking a rock after eating.
