Nookipedia cares for the safety and privacy of its users. Therefore, when revealing personal information about themselves, editors should always be cautious of the information they release. This policy provide guidelines regarding the release of personal information. The less one reveals about oneself, the safer one is. This should always be kept in mind when posting personal information about oneself.

What is considered personal information?

Under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA), personal information can be defined under the following:[1]

  • A first and last name
  • A home or other physical address, including street name and name of a city or town
  • Online contact information
  • A screen or user name where it functions in the same manner as online contact information
  • A telephone number
  • A Social Security number
  • A persistent identifier such as an IP address that can be used to recognize a user over time and across different Web sites or online services.
  • A photograph, video, or audio file containing an image or audio of you
  • Geolocation information sufficient to identify street name and name of a city or town
  • Information concerning an individual that the operator collects online from them and combines with an identifier described in this definition.

Birthday and age are generally not considered personal information, but are closely monitored when considering if a user is violating the personal information policy.

What not to do

User under the age of 13 cannot reveal any personal information provided. Users who are at or above the age of 13 can reveal their first name and certain online contact inforamtion, but cannot reveal any other personal information. Should a user violate this policy, any personal information that violate this policy will be removed and the revisions hidden. Continued infractions will result in punitive actions, including the inability to edit the site for a period of time.

Editors should not post personal, non-public information about other editors; this is a warnable or even blockable offense. Such information will be removed and their revisions hidden for the sake of privacy.
