This template is used on file pages in which the image is licensed under a Creative Commons license. The type and version of the CC license should be mentioned. The first parameter should specify which CC license to use:
- BY: Attribution
- BY-SA: Attribution-ShareAlike
- BY-NC: Attribution-NonCommercial
- BY-NC-SA: Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike
- BY-ND: Attribution-NoDerivatives (or Attribution-NoDerivs before 4.0)
- BY-NC-ND: Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives (or Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs before 4.0)
The second parameter should identify the version of the CC license to use:
- 1.0: 1.0 Generic
- 2.0: 2.0 Generic
- 2.1: 2.1 Japan (see usage below)
- 2.5: 2.5 Generic
- 3.0: 3.0 Unported
- 4.0: 4.0 International
The third parameter is optional, but it should only be used to specify if the CC license is version 2.1 Japan and can only be used in conjunction with version 2.1 (e.g. {{CC|BY-SA|2.1|JP}}).
While source and author(s) of the image can be mentioned, it is recommend for it to be done on the File Info template instead. This template is used by placing the following code in the file's description (replace "SOURCE" with the link that the image originates from and "AUTHOR" with the author(s) of the image):
