Mushrooms are items that appear during fall in the SER. There are a variety of mushrooms, each worth different amounts of Bells according to their rarity. In addition to being selling items, in CF and NL they may be an item from the Mushroom Series, and in NH they can be used to craft items from the Mush Series.

In DnM and PG, mushrooms are very rare and can only be found in the early morning from October 15 - 25, between the hours of 8 AM and 9 AM. At 8 AM, a mushroom will spawn and remain for 15 minutes, after which it de-spawns and another mushroom appears. Each mushroom is worth 5,000 Bells. Oddly, mushrooms are removed in the japanese release of nolink, and do not make another Japanese appearance until

In DnM, , PG, and , there is only one type of mushroom, known simply as mushroom. They are valuable items that can be sold at Tom Nook's store for 5,000 Bells each. Mushrooms can be found from October 15 to October 25 between 8:00 AM and 9:15 AM. At 8 AM, five mushrooms appear near random trees in different acres around town. Every 15 minutes after 8 AM, one random mushroom will disappear due to being found by a villager. To obtain all five mushrooms, the player must collect them all before 8:15 AM. If mushrooms are picked up and dropped again, they may still disappear on each 15-minute interval until 9:15 AM.

In CF, there are five different types of mushrooms, appearing throughout the month of November. During November, six mushrooms will spawn throughout the town each day, appearing as either Flat, Round, Skinny, or Elegant. One of those six mushrooms will be a piece of the Mushroom Series disguised as a mushroom. If the town has attained perfect status, several of the six picked mushrooms may re-appear as a rare mushroom, buried underground. Players may either sell or eat mushrooms they find (and will blush if he or she eats a rare or elegant mushroom).

In NL, mushrooms can be found near tree stumps during fall and, like in short, can be an item from the Mushroom Series. In addition to the five mushrooms found in short is the famous mushroom, valued at 16,000 Bells. Once eaten, the famous mushroom, which is designed after a Super Mushroom from the Super Mario series, will cause the player to temporarily grow in a fashion similar to Mario when collecting a Super Mushroom. Rare mushrooms may only be found buried underground near trees and tree stumps once a perfect town rating has been earned.

In short
In NH, mushrooms are crafting materials that can be found near hardwood and cedar trees during November in the northern hemisphere, and during May in the southern hemisphere. The player can also find mushrooms on a boat tour island. The round mushroom, skinny mushroom, and flat mushroom, and elegant mushrooms can be found on the ground, while rare mushrooms can be found buried underground.

Five mushrooms will appear per day until a limit of 30 is reached, after which new ones will stop growing. They do not appear on mystery islands but can be found on a mushroom boat tour island.

Spawn rates
The five mushroom types spawn at different rates, and the rates at which they spawn differ based on the island's rating. In NL, mushrooms can be found near tree stumps. In addition to the five mushrooms found in City Folk is the new Famous Mushroom, valued at 16,000 Bells. Once eaten, the famous mushroom will cause the player to temporarily grow in a fashion similar to Mario eating a Super Mushroom from the Mario series of video games. The Rare Mushroom may only be found buried underground near trees and tree stumps once a perfect town rating has been earned.

Trivia
*The appearance of each standard mushroom in the SER resembles a mushroom in the real-world:

**Round mushrooms resemble agaricus bisporus, also known as the common or button mushroom.

**Elegant mushrooms resemble shiitake, though in short they are redesigned and more closely resemble matsutake.

**Skinny mushrooms resemble enokitake, also known as velvet shank.

**Flat mushrooms resemble pleurotus, also known as oyster mushrooms.

**Rare mushrooms resemble truffles, and similarly are only found buried in the ground.
