The Dump is an open area in Animal Crossing and Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival where a player can drop unwanted items off. The Dump takes up one acre. About two items can be found there each day. These items are taken away on Monday and Thursday, 6am. The dump was replaced by the recycling bin in later games, which can be found in the Town Hall. The most likely reason for this was to save space and to enhance the overall appearance of the town.
