Name

Should we change the spelling to "Analog" to use American spelling rules? American English tends to distinguish between the two spellings, reserving "analogue" to mean "something which is like something else" (as in, the modern analogue of X), but not "something which an analogy is drawn from" (as in, "In an analogy, the analog corresponds to the target.") or "not digital; ranging continuously between values" (as in, "analog signal.") Meanwhile, British English tends to spell all of them as "analogue." Haha, it doesn't really matter. Ok (talk) 16:03, February 22, 2019 (EST)

He only appears in the Japanese DnMe+, so he doesn't have an official in-game spelling for his name in English. His in-game name is アナログ (Anarogu), which is just the English word analog/analogue. Ok (talk) 12:56, February 23, 2019 (EST)

Sorry for late reply. I've just looked at Liquefy's guide for DnMe+ (which is usually accurate) and it interestingly lists the villager as Analog. So, I think we should change the spelling. Drago (talk) 11:19, February 25, 2019 (EST)

Thank you. To be honest, it doesn't really matter what Liquify spelled it as, because it really is a matter of style; but it does show that other people in the community do spell it that way. By the way, this is just me going into the linguistic minutia, but that's probably the proper spelling for the meaning analog has in Japanese (as far as I know, it is only used as the counterpart to digital.) Hmm, interesting discussion! In cases like this, I'm generally for leaving the status-quo as-is unless there's a solid argument to change it. I'm not sure I follow why the American vs. British spelling argument would favor us going with the American spelling. If "analogue" is a spelling recognizes in both flavors of English, I'm thinking it would make sense to keep Analogue since it'd be recognized by the most English speakers, but maybe I'm missing something. ~SuperHamster Talk 02:11, February 26, 2019 (EST)

Haha, well we could move it back if we need too. Anyways, I was just under the impression that the policy on style to use American English (under 3 at Nookipedia:Policy) would apply here. Really, the strongest argument I can come up with is that the usage in Japanese would call for the spelling without "ue" in AE. I think we should definitely keep a redirect at least, to aid searching. (I'm sorry to have made a big discussion here, because it doesn't matter very much at all.)
