While initially absent from {{NH}}, the giant isopod was added in the 1.3.0 [[Animal Crossing: New Horizons/Update history|Free Summer Update]], where it appears from 9 AM to 4 PM and 9 PM to 4 AM as a medium-sized, very fast shadow from mid [[summer]] to mid [[fall]]. It is the only sea creature in the game to appear during two timeframes in a single day. With a sell price of {{Currency|Bells|12000}}, it is tied with the [[spider crab]] for the second-most valuable sea creature in the game, after the [[gigas giant clam]].
