The Faraway Museum (遠方の美術館, literally Museum of Afar) is a museum in Animal Crossing and Template:AFe+ that players have to send unidentified fossils to in order to have them identified. The sole reason for this was that Blathers, the curator of the town's museum, was not qualified to do so. In subsequent games, he was given permission to identify these fossils, removing any need for the Faraway Museum.
The player can send as many fossils as he or she wants in one day. However, only three will be received the following day, the rest are delivered on succeeding days.
The museum also accepts fish, bugs, and paintings.
The Faraway Museum is never seen in-game, but is referred to in Animal Crossing: Wild World, when Blathers talks of how he acquired his job. He claims that no one from the Faraway Museum would move to fill the post of curator at a new rural museum, so he was suggested for the job.
