I believe that Marcel's visual design is based on traditional Japanese masks, and not mimes. His Japanese name is written in hiragana, indicating he is a Japanese native. His clothes and house are Japanese-themed. Even his English phrase "non" can be interpreted as a referential pun to Noh theatre. Japanese-language sites indicate that his face is like a festival mask. I am creating a discussion page before changing anything, for now.

That's a good point, but in this case I think it's clear that the localization thought he looked like a mime and changed him to be French. Marcel is obviously referencing Marcel Marceau, and getting "Noh" from "non" is a bit of a stretch. But you do have a point about his Japanese name and styling, so it's probably worth noting both rather than one or the other. StrawberryChan (talk) 18:45, April 6, 2020 (EDT)

New Year's Birthday[edit]

So on the Animal Crossing Wiki (the one run by Fandom), the trivia on Marcel's page that he cannot celebrate the New Year's Countdown due to his birthday falling on that day. Can somebody confirm if this indeed true for any game he appears in and if it is, is it at least worth mentioning (either on Marcel's page or the Countdown page)? I think this is a very likely true for New Horizons, as villagers will celebrate their birthday from the time they wake up until midnight. And I couldn't find any evidence of Marcel being outside during the timeframe of the countdown (I searched Twitter with the tag #AnimalCrossing Marcel birthday and checked the "Latest" category). I don't know how it is for other games though. HylianAngel (talk) 16:56, April 14, 2021 (EDT)
Hmm but now I'm curious because theoretically maybe saving and reloading after midnight hits could rotate Marcel outside and he could then participate (at least for NH). HylianAngel (talk) 17:01, April 14, 2021 (EDT)
I know from experience from someone who had Marcel on their island. I believe one of the other villagers will join Marcel for their birthday party which means him and the villager celebrating with him are forced inside for celebrations. But I do think they do come out somewhere before midnight.
Can't tell though. My videos/photos of my past ACNH experiences are locked on a broken HDD. 😫 -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 17:49, April 14, 2021 (EDT)
