Animal Crossing: Wild World - Relay Version
Animal Crossing: Wild World - Relay Version, known in Europe as Animal Crossing: Wild World - Broadcast Version, is a Nintendo DS Game Card that was used in DS Download Stations to distribute the six monkey villagers, the twelve items from the Mario Theme, the Blue Falcon, and the pikmin to Animal Crossing: Wild World through Tag Mode. These Game Cards are the only way to obtain these villagers and items.
While the Game Cards were only intended to be used in DS Download Stations and were to be returned to Nintendo when the distribution period was over, some made it to the public and can function in a standard Nintendo DS. On the DS home menu, both versions are titled Animal Crossing: Wild World Relay Station.
Functionality
Animal Crossing: Wild World - Relay Version boots into a menu with six options: MNK00, MNK01, MNK02, MNK03, MNK04, MNK05, and RANDOM. When an option is selected with any face button, data will be broadcast wirelessly to any nearby copies of Animal Crossing: Wild World that are using Tag Mode. When a copy of Wild World receives the data, the chosen monkey villager automatically moves in and a note in a bottle appears on the beach. The bottle mail contains the following message from Katrina along with an exclusive item:
again of the mystical
simian who visits only
the loneliest of villages.
Keee ha mo-tata, Katrina
Each option corresponds to a monkey villager, and RANDOM chooses a random one. The item sent with each monkey is the same each time, but it differs between the North American and European versions.
Distribution can be stopped by pressing any face button. On the bottom screen, a count is kept of how many times the broadcasted data has been received, which can be reset by pressing Select and Start simultaneously. Additionally, a timer showing how long the program has been running appears on the bottom screen.
Versions
There are two known versions of Animal Crossing: Wild World - Relay Version: one for North America and one for Europe. Both versions work similarly but have different items from each other, and each version has exclusive features. Both the North American and European versions can send data to either the North American or European versions of Wild World.
North America
The Animal Crossing: Wild World - Relay Version Game Card (NTR-AM4E-USA), known internally as the ADME Relay Station, was used for distribution in the United States. On the DS home menu, the cart has a timestamp of "2005/12/22 11:44" in its title.
The villagers and items distributed are as follows:
Option | Villager | Item |
---|---|---|
MNK00 | Champ | ? block |
MNK01 | Nana | 1-Up mushroom |
MNK02 | Simon | Green pipe |
MNK03 | Tammi | Flagpole |
MNK04 | Monty | Fire bar |
MNK05 | Elise | Starman |
Exclusive to this version is the RELAY option, which sends the bottle mail message received by the Game Card from the previous player. No item is attached, and no monkey villager moves in.
Europe
The Animal Crossing: Wild World - Broadcast Version Game Card (NTR-AM4P-EUR), known internally as the ADMP Broadcasting Tool, was used for distribution in Europe. On the DS home menu, the cart has a timestamp of "2006/04/10 09:36" in its title.
Exclusive to this version is the option to select a "1ST" or "2ND" mode, which changes whether or not a villager is distributed and which item is distributed. There is also the option to choose between English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish, which changes the language of the bottle mail. If the "1ST" mode is selected, the message from Katrina is sent. If the "2ND" mode is selected, the note in a bottle instead contains the following message from somebody named Dawn:
moved into my village. All
of a sudden! Maybe this'll
happen to you one day!
Bye, Dawn
The villagers and items distributed are as follows:
Option | Villager (1st) | Item (1st) | Villager (2nd) | Item (2nd) |
---|---|---|---|---|
MNK00 | Champ | Flagpole | - | ? block |
MNK01 | - | Super mushroom | Nana | ? block |
MNK02 | Simon | Starman | - | ? block |
MNK03 | - | Mushroom mural | - | Brick block |
MNK04 | Tammi | Cannon | Monty | Brick block |
MNK05 | Elise | Pikmin | - | Brick block |

Further details: According to documentation online, every single DLC item was distributed in Japan via DS Download Stations, although there is no documentation of the cart(s) used. A possible starting point could be NTR-AM4J-JPN, which, if like the others, would be its game code.
