Paint can be purchased from Tom Nook's store and the available colors change on a daily basis. In New Leaf and New Horizons, paint does not appear; instead, different roof colors and designs can be purchased.

After the player pays off their mortgage, Tom Nook will ask them what color they want their roof to be. After buying a can of paint it takes one day for the roof color to change. Players can only buy paint in their town; Tom Nook will not sell to those visiting from another town.
