21:48 | Shino diffhist +41 217.178.122.7 talk Corrected Japanese name explanation. The town of Yoshino has no deer, as they are on a mountain. However, what they are known for is being the home of a Buddhist Priest who instead of chasing away Oni from the town, he tamed them and converted them to Buddhism. During Setsubun, where people traditionally throw beans to chase away Oni, Yoshino instead welcomes them into town and they help the monks purify the area for the new year. This deer is modeled after an Oni. |
