Empty lamp
The empty lamp, or magic lamp, is an item in Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo. It is an oil lamp that belongs to Wisp, who lives inside of it.
Appearances[edit]
In City Folk[edit]
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, the empty lamp may randomly spawn in the player's town. This indicates that Wisp will appear after 8:00 PM in a random location of the town, usually near the shoreline. When the player gets close enough to him, a dialogue box will appear. Wisp will ask the player to come closer. When the player moves closer to Wisp, he appears in his true form. He will explain that he has lost his lamp, that the lamp is usually where he lives, and will ask the player to find it for him because he is too afraid of open spaces to find it himself.
If the player, holding the lamp, speaks to him again, he will ask them to go to their attic, a more comfortable environment for him, and to rub his lamp there. The lamp will then be listed as a "magic lamp" in the inventory. When players rub the lamp, he will grant them a wish. They can remove all weeds, clear out cockroaches from their home, receive an item, or have nothing at all. The item category has several sub-categories: furniture, clothing, accessory, or hat. If the player chooses nothing at all, the player saves the wish for later.
In Welcome amiibo[edit]
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, the magic lamp may randomly spawn in the player's town. When it is dropped in the player's house, Wisp will appear. He will give the player an opportunity to scan an amiibo card, but this can only be done once a day.
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, a furniture item called the genie's lamp heavily resembles the design of the empty lamp from Animal Crossing: City Folk, although it is not related to Wisp.
