Her name is a portmanteau of ''baa'', onomatopoeia for the sound sheep make, and the given name ''Barbara''. Likewise, her catchphrase is a portmanteau of ''baa'' and ''darling''.

Baabara has a brown-skinned sheep with pale blue coat. She has purple horns, which blend in with the pale blue tones in her woolly coat. Her eyes usually remain closed, but she will rarely open them. Her eyes are black with a brown sclera.

Baabara is a snooty character, which means she will appear rude and arrogant when talking to the [[player]]. She will warm up to the player after some time talking to them, sharing any gossip and asking them for their opinion on what they are wearing and holding. She will find it hard to get along with other villagers, specifically [[jock]] and [[lazy]] villagers who have conflicting lifestyles with her own. Baabara was featured on gaming news websites in December 2008 when [[Nintendo]] released fourteen review copies of {{WW}} to the press to demonstrate its [[transfer|player data transfer]] feature with {{CF}}. Unbeknownst to Nintendo, Baabara's catchphrase was tampered with; what should have been "daahling" was "Ñ****á", a [[wikipedia:Racial slur|racial slur]]. The slur was modified, likely to bypass the game's profanity filter, which prevents players from setting catchphrases and greetings to anything deemed inappropriate. Additionally, her greeting was changed to ''❤ u long time!!'', a quote from the film ''Full Metal Jacket'' that is used in a sexual context.
