This bronze sculpture was crafted by Auguste Rodin and is usually placed on a stone pedestal. The work is currently showed off at the Muséé Rodin in Paris, France. The work shows a nude male figure of heroic size sitting on a rock with his chin resting on his hand as though deep in thought, often used as an image to represent philosophy. There are around 28 full-sized castings, in which the figure is about 186 cm high, though not all were made during Rodin's lifetime. There are various other versions, several in plaster, and studies and posthumous castings exist in a range of sizes. Rodin got a request of making the figure in 1880, but the first casting wasn't seen until 1904. In June 2022, one of the castings was offered in an auction with an estimate of €9m to €14m.
