Miiverse was a social network to share screenshots of games, drawings with stamps, short text messages (100 then 200 from June 26) or replay videos. To connect/create an account, you need a Nintendo Network ID created by a user account on Wii U or a Nintendo 3DS.

History

Miiverse started on Wii U on November 18, 2012 with the release of the console as an application available in the Home menu of the console. On April 24, 2013, the social network is accessible from most devices that can display a web page. On December 10, 2013, the 7.0.0-13 update of 3DS add Nintendo Network compatibility and a Miiverse icon/application in the top right corner. Finally on November 7, 2017, the service closed its doors.

On July 29, 2015, Miiverse redesigned their service, with the following changes: users could post to their "Play Journal," save screenshots in their album, post drawings in a separate section in a community, and post discussions if they needed help with completing a level in a game. The redesign also added a daily post limit, in which every user on the network could post up to 30 posts a day. However, this also removed the ability to post to the activity feed.

Utilization

The Wii U Menu (or Home Menu) with the Wara Wara Plaza (where the Mii are walking) displays only the recorded Mii on Wii U Mii_Channel and Nintendo's default Miis with prerecord messages. If you are connected to Miiverse, the 10 last software used is displayed with comments from other users.
The main purpose of the application was to serve as a mutual aid platform between the players. We could post short messages, a screenshot (from TV or Gamepad then with the arrival of 3DS, from the top or bottom screen), stamps to unlock in games for drawings (in black and white) and even video record and comment other messages.
This social network uses a Trust metric called Yeah! who can change to Yeah!? Yeah... or Yeah♥ according to the expression we give to our Mii when we post the message.
Each game had its own community in three regions. We could also post in our activity feed visible to our subscribers. There were two communities where Aya Kyogoku was the only one to comment to provide new information on the Animal Crossing series.
