This is the page for users to be nominated for Nookipedia's volunteer staff roles. We are always looking for active and experienced editors to become a part of our staff team, who are granted additional tools to aid in the maintenance of the wiki. If you wish to nominate yourself or another editor for a staff role, please read and follow the information detailed on this page. All users are welcome to participate in nominations with their input, but only staff members may cast votes.

Remember, becoming a staff member isn't a big deal—no user is higher than another, and being a member of staff simply means that you have are entrusted with extra tools to help out with.

Promotions to Patroller, Administrator, and Bureaucrat are all determined through the process outlined here. The Director and Interface administrator roles do not come under this process, and are instead assigned at the discretion of the site's operation team. Other user levels are not considered staff roles, and can be assigned to users at a staff member's discretion:

  • Trustee can be assigned to a user by an Administrator, Bureaucrat, or Director.
  • Cargo Technician can be assigned to a user by a Bureaucrat or Director.
  • Bots are not staff but do require staff approval to run. Requests to operate bot accounts should be made here.

Nomination process

Expectations

Users may nominate themselves or another user as a candidate for a staff role. All nominations must meet the requirements detailed in the below section. Please note that these are the minimum requirements for nomination, and the candidate will be assessed on their experience and suitability for the role they are applying for. Candidates without sufficient experience are unlikely to be successful, and nominations that do not meet the requirements will be considered invalid and immediately closed as unsuccessful.

For a successful nomination, it is recommended that the candidate demonstrates knowledge of Nookipedia editing standards and policies, an ability to communicate with and assist users in a courteous manner, and be reasonably experienced and active as an editor.

Users of all levels must abide by the community interaction standards as outlined in the general policy. If a candidate does not behave appropriately or in good faith, Directors have the right to veto and end the nomination process.

Submission

Nominations can be submitted by following the instructions detailed further below. Nominations that do not meet the requirements are invalid and will immediately be closed as unsuccessful, so please carefully review them before submitting a nomination.

Staff are permitted to change their vote before the nomination is closed. Non-staff users cannot cast votes, but are allowed to participate in the Comments section of the nomination.

All users are encouraged to offer constructive feedback, even if they do not support the nomination.

Timeline

Users have 7 days from the date a nomination is submitted to participate. After this point, a Director or Bureaucrat will determine the consensus of the vote. In order for an nomination to be successful, there must be at least 65% support. A nomination must receive a minimum total of five votes before a consensus can be determined; if less than five votes have been cast, the nomination process will be extended for another 7 days.

Outcome

If you are a candidate and your nomination is successful, you will be contacted by a member of staff regarding the next steps. You will also need to ensure your account meets the security requirements needed for your role before the user level change can take place. Participation on the staff channels on our Discord server is encouraged, but not required. If you are a user on the server, your role will be updated accordingly.

If you are a candidate and your nomination fails, please don't be discouraged! Staff will offer constructive advice, so take it into mind, and re-apply (after at least 60 days) when you think you're ready again.

Requirements

All nominations

To be nominated for staff, the candidate must meet the below requirements:

  • their account must be at least 2 months old.
  • they must have made at least 200 edits in the article mainspace. Edits in other namespaces do not count.
  • they must be over the age of 13.

Candidates cannot be nominated for staff if:

  • they have had an unsuccessful nomination in the past 60 days.
  • they have been successfully promoted in the past 60 days.
  • they have been expelled from a staff role within the past 6 months.

Users can only be nominated for the level above their current user level; Autoconfirmed users are eligible for Patroller, Patrollers are eligible for Administrator, and Administrators are eligible for Bureaucrat.

Former Administrators or Bureaucrats who resigned from their position, or were demoted due to inactivity, may apply directly for their former position. Users who were expelled from a staff role may only apply for the Patroller position, and only after 6 months from the date of expulsion.

Nomination of other users

Any user may nominate another user, with their permission, for a staff role provided they observe the following guidelines:

  • The candidate has agreed to be nominated by another user.
  • Non-staff users may only nominate users who meet the minimum requirements detailed above.
  • Staff may nominate any user for a staff position at their discretion, regardless of account age, edit count, and recent nomination history. All other requirements must be met.

Other than the initial submission itself, nominated candidates go through the same process as self-nominated candidates.

Successful promotion

While not required for an nomination, the below security requirements must be met for a successful promotion to proceed:

  • A verified email address must be added to an account before a user can be promoted to any staff user level.
  • Two-factor authentication must be enabled before an Administrator can be promoted to Bureaucrat.

If the requirements are not met within 30 days of a successful nomination, the decision will be rendered null and void, and the outcome will be considered as unsuccessful. Per the staff demotion policy, staff who remove their email address and Bureaucrats who disable two-factor authentication will have 30 days to rectify this before being demoted.

Staff members are also expected to protect their accounts with a strong password that cannot be easily guessed or brute-forced. In the event that a staff account is compromised, immediate steps will be taken on the account to protect the site and its users.
