The festive rug is an item in Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduced in the 1.6.0 Free Winter Update. As a rug item, it can be placed inside the houses of villagers, the player, Photopia on Harv's Island, a vacation home in Happy Home Paradise, or in the Room Sketch app.
The festive rug can be obtained from crafting, which requires 5× red ornament, 5× blue ornament, and 5× Gold Ornament. The recipe for this item can be obtained from villagers or balloons from December 15 to January 6 in celebration of Festive Season.
No villagers have this item in their home.
In Happy Home Paradise, this item is unlocked for use in designing when doing a vacation home request for 
Curlos and 
Daisy.
