The Police Station (交番 kōban) is a small, cylindrical building that only appears in Animal Crossing and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Its sole purpose was to accomodate items for the 'Lost and Found', a service that stores items that villagers around town had found. The player could claim all of the items on display without consequence. Twenty items can be stored in the police station at one time, after which the old ones are replaced. Items such as stationary, clothing and furniture can all be found on display.
The police station has the town map displayed on a board outside, and a small paved area around it. Copper the dog, stands outside to give the player information regarding events, while Booker waits within the building to try to assist the player. Copper will thank the player for visiting after they exit the building.
The police station was replaced by the Town Gate in subsequent games up until Animal Crossing: New Leaf where it return. In New Leaf the player will have the choice of building either the Old Style station which will be run by Booker, or the New Style station which will be run by Copper.
