Template talk:Villager Info Box

From Nookipedia, the Animal Crossing wiki

Add the "title" parameter to Template:Villager Info Box[edit]

Currently, character pages do not state the character's name in their villager boxes. There are 2 template exceptions, as character name data is present in the Happy Home Designer and Happy Home Paradise villager boxes, where it is necessary to distinguish multiple client requests, like for Filly, Lottie, Timmy and Tommy, and Tom Nook (King Nook). I think this data is vital to include in every villager box, and not just for the Happy Home Designer and Happy Home Paradise villager boxes.

Here are the reasons:

  • While the inclusion of this name data may seem redundant when it is mentioned in the first sentence of the page, a large amount of data in the villager boxes are similarly redundant in nature. Since villager names have changed, I don't think name data would be that redundant. For example, birthdays have changed, and that data is also present in every villager box no matter what, even though it's only changed for 1 villager (Tammi). (Ignoring star signs, which have changed for some.) There's not really a good reason why this name data shouldn't be displayed, other than it being "obvious" in character cases where the name hasn't changed.
  • Villagers Cally, Caroline, and Sally could use this so it's extremely clear what their names are in Animal Crossing.
    • Also it can be used to make it clear that Wart Jr.'s nameplate name is "Wart Jr" in Animal Crossing.
  • It will be useful for characters initially introduced in Doubutsu no Mori e+, and thus don't technically have an English name in that game (and using another parameter, a translation of the name could be added next to it).
  • Special character Labelle/Label could use this so it's extremely clear her name is "Labelle" in New Leaf, "Labelle" in Happy Home Designer, and "Label" in New Horizons.
  • Special character DJ KK has a different name in Happy Home Designer, due to his special nature as an "alternate costume" in said game.
  • Name data will make it clearer what a character's true nameplate name is in the cases of Don Resetti ("Don"), K.K. Slider ("K.K."), Mr. Resetti ("Resetti"), Dr. Shrunk ("Shrunk"), Zipper T. Bunny ("Zipper"), as their nameplate names are different from the Nookipedia page names.
  • Go to Timmy and Tommy's page. Okay now look at their New Horizons' section. Which one is Timmy, and which one is Tommy? It's completely unclear. If the title parameter exists, it will be clear without any thinking whatsoever.

I have posted an example of the intended template change to {{Villager Info Box}} in User:HylianAngel/SandboxTemplate, and the output example is posted here in User:HylianAngel/Sandbox#Sally. As it can be seen, it adds the character's name at the top of the villager box. I would really like to implement this. HylianAngel (talk) 00:54, April 6, 2023 (EDT)

I've implemented it, but it only shows up in very specific boxes where it's relevant (like Cally in her PG box only), rather than all boxes. I would still like to implement this change to all boxes at some point, but only if there's any interest besides me. HylianAngel (talk) 23:31, July 22, 2023 (EDT)
