New Leaf Distributed Items

The mail and mail text format may not work so well with Animal Crossing: New Leaf, since the Post Office distributed all of the items so far in the form of a Present, without an accompanying letter. Perhaps a different format should be considered for New Leaf and other items distributed in this manner? Prince Gumball (talk) 02:54, 20 June 2013 (EDT)

I'd agree with that apart from the fact that the EU Slushie Machine was a Pete letter from Nintendo, maybe we make it an optional field. Leem01 10:53, 31 July 2013 (EDT)

New Leaf DLC Grouping

I'm just going through the New Leaf DLC to update this page, is there any particular order of items we're looking for. At the moment it goes:

- Wi-Fi DLC (June+July) - Best Buy DLC - EU Nintendo Zone DLC

However in the past, we've sorted by date and with the firework's table that came out today, I'm not sure whether to group it with the Rainbow Screen and Palm Tree Lamp or just add it to the bottom. Leem01 07:08, 1 August 2013 (EDT)

Category for images of distributed items?

Most if not all images of distributed items are uncategorized, so maybe we could set up a distributed items category, or maybe even one per game that has them. Of course, that would be low priority to this page, but probably a quick fix if wanted. --Milifilou (talk) 11:47, May 16, 2020 (EDT)

I agree that a 'DLC item' category would be helpful, but soon items will be receiving their own pages, and so this category should be reserved for item pages rather than images. Any uncategorized DLC images that are not isolated (transparent background) should be in Category:Game Name furniture screenshots (e.g. Category:New Leaf furniture screenshots). Merging regional list pages

Shouldn't the distributed items pages for each region be merged into one page for each game (similar to List of distributed items in New Horizons)? Right now, it's a complete mess. New Leaf distributed items from Europe/Japan aren't in List of distributed items in New Leaf, and City Folk doesn't even have its own page. Additionally, should they be subpages of this page (e.g. Distributed items/New Horizons instead of List of distributed items in New Horizons), similar to the fish/bug pages for each game? If nobody objects, I'll be doing this soon. ~ AlexBot2004 (Talk) 02:34, May 19, 2020 (EDT)

Move to downloadable content

I'm proposing a move from distributed items to downloadable content since the latter is by far the more common term (thus what people would search for more), and not all DLC are items (e.g. the DLC designs in City Folk and the DLC villagers in Happy Home Designer and Welcome amiibo). The only alteration that would need to be made to this article is the removal of the section for the original Animal Crossing (since it covers player-to-player codes that are not DLC), but that section would be better suited in an article like multiplayer anyway. ~ AlexBot2004 (Talk) 17:08, January 12, 2021 (EST)

Support Support - I agree that the change to DLC will aid in discoverability. You might also want to include a hatnote at the top of the article to the effect of 'This article documents in-game content distribution in the Animal Crossing series, for the major downloadable content update to Animal Crossing: New Leaf, see Welcome amiibo." Or maybe NLWa should get a section on the page with a link to the main article? Sunmarshsignature.png (talk) 14:03, January 15, 2021 (EST)
It's been a while, but I Oppose Oppose to move this to downloadable content. The one key argument against moving to downloadable content is that one of the items in New Horizons, the Simple DIY Workbench, is an existing item that Nintendo will always distribute regardless of if the player has updated or not. The csv files in 1.0.0 indicate that this was something within the base-game. While moving to downloadable content would be logical given the fact that the term is more commonly used than distributed content, there are instances where a distributed item does not necessary come from base-game, and I think some discussion should be addressed before I support moving this page. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 15:53, February 25, 2021 (EST)
Oppose Oppose as per PanchamBro. Renaming the page downloadable content would be a bit misleading since it would not be covering non-item-related DLC. While a small section linking to the parent articles could be added, I feel it'd be a better idea to just keep the scope of the article strictly to distributed items. Additionally, removal of the Animal Crossing (GCN) section doesn't seem right to me considering that Nintendo themselves distributed these items through codes from Nintendo Power. Alternatively, I'd like to suggest that Downloadable content be turned into a disambiguation page that links to Distributed items, the Welcome amiibo update, Pocket Camp's update history and New Horizon's update history.
