Talk:Zipper T. Bunny

From Nookipedia, the Animal Crossing wiki

Wild World[edit]

If I'm not mistaken, Zipper appears in Wild World as well. --Evil Yugi 23:34, 30 April 2011 (EDT)

He only appears in Animal Crossing: City Folk because it is the only game that celebrates Bunny Day. --Jake 23:46, 30 April 2011 (EDT)

Gender[edit]

Could someone edit the Gender from Unknown to Male? It refers to Zipper T. as a Male consistently throughout the article. --Nintendo Mad 18:10, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Done. Super (duh...)AlpacaDoggie Mask.gif 18:34, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Phyllis[edit]

I couldn't find any footage of the Phyllis line, so I did some time traveling to check it out myself and even looked through a text dump, and as far as I can tell she never makes mention of a bunny suit. I did see some people talking about it online so maybe there's something I'm missing, but it seems to just be a fake rumor being passed around with no evidence. While I would still agree it likely is her, I'm removing the mention of it until it can actually be proven. Lotter (talk) 09:35, January 17, 2019 (EST)

It's pure speculation. Thanks for removing it, Lotter! Drago (talk) Drago PC Villager Icon.png 10:59, January 17, 2019 (EST)

Person in a costume?[edit]

There is clearly a zipper on his back... But who is it? Need to figure this out. Please help. -Doodley (talk) 23:50, August 10, 2020 (EDT)

While it is heavily implied that Zipper is someone in a costume, it is never stated (or even hinted at) in any official source who is in the costume. Therefore, any speculation as to who it is is purely speculation and should not be included in this article. ~ AlexBot2004 (Talk) 23:58, August 10, 2020 (EDT)

Renamed to just "Zipper"[edit]

No consensus on the move, but a similar discussion has been started at The Roost and any further discussion regarding the article's title situation should be moved there. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 17:03, October 13, 2022 (EDT)

I'll have to be honest, I don't think we should have Zipper's full name be the article's title. The "T. Bunny" isn't necessary to know what Zipper is at all. It would be nice to just simply link "Zipper" instead of his full name for every link he's involved in. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 22:27, July 5, 2022 (EDT)

Oppose Oppose Well, Zipper redirects to the page for that reason. He's not actually referred to as just Zipper as often as you might think, except in his dialogue box, but by that logic the page K.K. Slider should be called K.K. (which, if it isn't clear, I also oppose). For a page title, Zipper T. Bunny makes the most sense. Then just link to Zipper when you want. Oppose Oppose per Chubby Bub. ~ AlexBot2004 (Talk) 00:38, July 6, 2022 (EDT)
Oppose Oppose per Chubby Bub. It might be nice to be able to simplify his name, but if most in-game dialogue refers to him as Zipper T. Bunny, we should stick with that. Drago (talk) Drago PC Villager Icon.png 11:16, July 6, 2022 (EDT)
Comment Comment I understand where many of you are coming from, so I decided to look into this matter more closely.
In regards to Drago's comment that most in-game dialogue calls him Zipper T. Bunny, it's almost correct, but not exactly. I decided to check New Horizons dialogue using Aeon's MSBT Explorer, and after reviewing the MSBT files, I found no traces that Zipper is called "Zipper T. Bunny". I also checked the New Leaf dialogue, and that has traces of "Zipper T. Bunny". So while it appears that one game calls him "Zipper T. Bunny", the latest game just simplifies that to "Zipper", and I haven't check other MSBT files yet to find out if Zipper is called by his full name. If we're going by the logic of following the latest game however, I think moving it to just "Zipper" would suffice, given that it is what the character is called.
Something to also note: Label used to be called Labelle, but it appears she was moved to Label later on down the line because her name was changed for New Horizons. And this brings up a issue that might need to be address: how do we title special characters with a full or different name? The Manual of Style nor the Policy page doesn't mention how we take into account with this situation. Chubby Bub made a valid point about the issue of renaming K.K. Slider to K.K. (which I wasn't implying to commit to at all), but then what about Mabel Able and Sable Able? We also have Don Resetti and Sonny Resetti. I'm not saying we should go ahead and move those pages there, but what I think we need is a character naming guideline, one that takes into consideration A) what the current game calls them and B) what the community calls them.
I'm sorry if my original proposal was slightly lackluster, I was a bit tired. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 11:46, July 6, 2022 (EDT)
Comment Comment How do you search these text banks for certain keywords? It might help other users to visualize that "Zipper T. Bunny" is not used in New Horizons at all, and that "Zipper T. Bunny" is used less often in comparison to "Zipper" in New Leaf, which would both be strong reasons to update this article's name. HylianAngel (talk) 19:50, July 23, 2022 (EDT)
Comment Comment Like Pancham pointed out, the Manual of Style does not make it clear what the criteria is for a special character's article name. That means we are currently using an unspoken criteria. In my mind, I can visualize 4 potential naming standards for the article names:
  1. Using the character's nameplate.
  2. Using the character's full name.
  3. Using the name that the character introduces themselves as.
  4. Using the name that the character is most often referred to.
Naming system #1
If the wiki were to use character's nameplates, that would mean these article names would be changed:
  • Don Resetti -> Don
  • Mr. Resetti -> Resetti
  • K.K. Slider -> K.K.
  • Dr. Shrunk -> Shrunk
  • Zipper T. Bunny -> Zipper
These 5 characters have the same nameplates in New Leaf, Happy Home Designer, and New Horizons. The wiki is currently not using naming system #1.
Naming system #2
If the wiki were to use character's full names, that would mean these article names would be changed:
  • Mabel -> Mabel Able
  • Sable -> Sable Able
  • Label -> Label Able
  • Mr. Resetti -> Sonny Resetti
  • Don Resetti (no change)
  • K.K. Slider (no change)
  • Dr. Shrunk (no change)
  • Zipper T. Bunny (no change)
Some wikis do use full names, while other wikis opt for the name the character is best known by/most commonly known by. Anyways, the wiki is currently not using naming system #2.
Naming system #3
This needs more thorough research before it could be implemented, but here are some examples of the names that special characters use to introduce themselves:
  • Mabel and Sable:
    • I'm not really sure if they ever introduce themselves, other than Mabel saying "Welcome to Able Sisters" whenever you visit the store. Either way, "Mabel Able" and "Sable Able" are never used, other than on their e-Reader cards.
  • Label:
    • In New Horizons, Label introduces herself as "Label." She will later mention after doing a successful fashion check that "Label" is her real name, while "Labelle" is her old name and lives on as her fashion brand.
  • Shrunk:
    • In Wild World, Shrunk introduces himself as "Dr. Shrunk."
    • In City Folk during comedy routines, he introduces himself as "Dr. Shrunk."
    • In New Leaf during certain comedy routines (maybe just the first one? not sure), he introduces himself as "Dr. Shrunk." Though there are some routines where other characters in the joke simply call him "Shrunk."
  • Resetti:
    • In Animal Crossing, Wild World, and City Folk, Resetti introduces himself as "Resetti" and clarifies with "Mr. Resetti."
    • In New Leaf, Resetti introduces himself as "Resetti" but says he's most commonly referred to as "Mr. Resetti."
  • Don:
    • In City Folk, Don introduces himself as "Resetti's big brother," "Don."
    • In New Leaf, Don introduces himself as "Don," "Sonny's older brother."
  • Zipper:
    • In City Folk, Zipper introduces himself as "Zipper T. Bunny."
    • In New Leaf, Zipper initially introduces himself as "Zipper" and then as "Zipper T. Bunny" shortly afterwards.
    • In New Horizons, Zipper introduces himself as "Zipper."
So if the wiki were to use the names of introduction, that would mean these articles need to be changed:
  • Don Resetti -> Don
  • Zipper T. Bunny -> Zipper
However, the wiki does not seem to be using naming system #3.
Naming system #4
SuperHamster mentioned this in the Nookipedia Discord, but Wikipedia's naming policy is to use the name that is most common. Supposedly, the wiki is currently using naming system #4, although it's not explicitly mentioned in the Manual of Style. If the wiki is using this naming system, then the dialogue would need to be more thoroughly examined in each game to be entirely sure on certain special character names. I could be wrong in some of these cases because I don't have an easy way to Ctrl + F the dialogue banks of each game, but I believe that would mean updating the following articles:
  • Don Resetti -> Don
  • Mr. Resetti -> Resetti
  • Dr. Shrunk -> Shrunk
  • Zipper T. Bunny -> Zipper
Support Support If Zipper is never referred to as "Zipper T. Bunny" in New Horizons, and if "Zipper" is used the most often in City Folk/New Leaf dialogue, then under naming system #4, this article should be referred to as "Zipper." HylianAngel (talk) 19:50, July 23, 2022 (EDT)
Support Support I've decided to change my vote per PanchamBro's findings for New Horizons dialogue, and our general prioritization of the latest game. As for the naming standard suggestions above, it would be better to take them to the Roost or Proposals. Drago (talk) Drago PC Villager Icon.png 10:35, July 25, 2022 (EDT)
