Balloons are items given out free of charge by Phineas in Animal Crossing: City Folk or Happy Home Showcase players in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Also, in Animal Crossing, Tom Nook will give the player a free balloon in his store during a sale (but not on Sale Day). Balloons do not appear in the catalog. Balloons are held in the player's hand like tools, which means that the player cannot use a tool while holding a balloon. The balloons can also be placed in a house. If the players trip while running or falls in a pitfall while holding a balloon, they will lose it.
