Fence
Fences are outdoor DIY items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Fences can be placed to create boundaries are crafted in stacks of ten. To achieve a 5-star island rating, a variety of fencing must be placed on the island. As of the 2.0 update, some of the fences are customizable.
Fences are unlocked after the player establishes three housing plots for Tom Nook. He will supply them with 50 Simple Wooden Fences, and the recipes for most fences will become available for redemption in the Nook Stop. Two recipes are available each day, and all recipes cost 1,000 Nook Miles. Several fences can only be obtained through other means, however; the Bunny Day Fence recipe can only be acquired during the Bunny Day event, the Hedge recipe is received from Tom Nook after completing a Nature Day Nook Miles+ challenge, the Wedding Fence can only be obtained on Harv's Island during Wedding Season, and the Spooky Fence can only be obtained from Jack when given a Lollipop on Halloween.
Placing fences
Placing fences, unlike placing ordinary furniture is done by equipping the desired fence from the player's pockets. The selected fence will be equipped similarly to a tool. When they are equipped, the player can build the fence in front of them, and they are oriented perpendicular to the player direction. Fences automatically connect with those placed next to them, but they cannot connect diagonally. Two fences placed that are facing directions different from each other will make a corner.
