The Quaint Painting is a painting available in all games in the Animal Crossing series. The Quaint Painting is a copy of Johannes Vermeer's The Milkmaid, painted around 1657. Despite its title, it depicts a housemaid pouring milk into a Dutch oven. The Milkmaid is currently on display in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

Authenticity

In New Leaf, if the maid is missing her bonnet, the painting is a forgery.

In New Horizons, if the maid is pouring a lot of milk (as opposed to a small strand), the painting is a forgery.

Museum exhibit description

"This piece earned Vermeer the nickname "Master of Light" thanks to its exquisite contrast and depth. Vermeer painted this masterpiece at only 25 years of age. Many note that it is surprisingly small in real life."
