In Animal Crossing and Doubutsu no Mori e+, the Lottery is an event that happens in Tom Nook's store on the last day of each month. Tom Nook will not buy or sell anything on a Lottery day. In order to play, the player must have 5 tickets corresponding with the month; they can only use tickets from a certain month on that month only. To get tickets, the player has to buy items from Nook's store. However, only certain items such as furniture, wallpaper, carpets, clothing and umbrellas award tickets. Buying seeds, saplings, sign boards, paint, candy, tools, stationary or Sale Day grab bags will not award tickets.

Once the player has 5 tickets, they will have one chance. The more tickets, the more chances they have. Usually, Nook will have rare items as prizes (which became Spotlight items in later games), or more often, NES games. After the player gives him five tickets from that month, he will spin the balls in the container. Depending on the ball's color, they will either get a specific prize (gold ball for first place, red ball for second place, blue ball for third place), or most often, no prize at all (white ball). Tickets cannot be sold for anything, and if it is not the month to use them, the player will have to wait until that month comes again a year later, or simply, throw them in the dump.

The Lottery does not appear in later games - instead, it has been replaced with the Spotlight item.

Furniture

The following pieces of furniture can only be obtained through the lottery, not from Tom's usual stock. They can also be obtained as gifts or by other means, and are worth +1029 HRA points.
