Shovels in the Animal Crossing series are used to bury and dig. They are also essential for filling the museum. The shovels are also used to dig up tree stumps left over from cutting trees with the axes. In City Folk, the silver shovel will have a 10% chance of doubling the money from a money rock. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, there is a chance that the silver shovel can hit the Money Rock to spawn ores. In the original games, the golden shovel would dig 100 bells from random spots. In Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk, the golden shovel will plant money trees.

Obtaining

In Animal Crossing

Regular

Purchase from Tom Nook's Store for 500 Bells.

Gold

Bury a shovel in a 'shiny' spot where 1,000 Bells is normally dug up. A tree bearing a gold shovel will grow in its place.

In Wild World

Regular

Purchase from Tom Nook's Store for 500 Bells.

Gold

Bury a shovel and dig it up the next day.

In City Folk

Regular

Purchase from Tom Nook's Store for 500 Bells.

Silver

Visit the City and visit Resetti Surveillance Center after 8 PM on a random day. The center is on the right side of the city, normally blocked off by orange cones.

Gold

Bury a shovel and dig it out the next day. In order to do this, the player must have two shovels. This is not possible when a silver shovel is buried, so another one must be bought from Tom Nook for 500 Bells. Money trees can be planted with a golden shovel.

In New Leaf

Regular

Purchase from Timmy and Tommy Nook's store for 500 Bells.

Silver

Purchase from the Museum Shop for 500 Bells after donating at least fifteen fossils to the museum.

Gold

Receive from Leif after purchasing at least fifty bags of fertilizer from the Garden Center.
