Chow (チャウヤン, Chauyan) is a cranky, bear villager from the Animal Crossing series. He has appeared in every game so far. Chow's name comes from the spelling variation of the Chinese surname, Zhou - the fact that it is a Chinese (sur)name, relates to the character being a Panda Bear.

Appearance

Chow is a pink panda bear with black arms, eyes, and legs, and also has a mole under his left eye. Chow is initially seen wearing a Star shirt which can be purchased at the Able Sisters' shop. He uses a ribbon umbrella when it rains.

Personality

Below is a brief description of the cranky personality. For more information, click here.

Chow is a cranky villager. Although he is a cranky villager, he can be very nice. He will constantly ask for a fishing contest. Sometimes when the player has a fish in the inventory an exclamation point will appear above his head and he will ask for the fish, giving something in return. He has harassed many normal residents by saying "So I heard you were planning a big wedding ceremony." It is also noted that his smile can be very unnerving, reminiscent of a crazy or disturbed person. Chow also likes pink furniture, he will ask you to get him some. If there is more than one player living in the home, sometimes he takes a real dislike to one or two of them, although he may be nice to the others. When talking to a normal villager he might call them a "doodie head".

House

In Animal Crossing, Chow has a fish bowl and exotic furniture. Curiously, the lights are always off. In Animal Crossing: Wild World, he has imperial furniture, a squat dingloid, and a fish in his house. He listens to "K.K. Steppe." In Animal Crossing: City Folk, instead of a dingloid, he has a croakoid.

Trivia

  • In the city of Hull, England, "chow" is a colloquialism used for "telling off." As people are usually cranky when telling someone off, this relates to Chow's personality, although it is most likely unintended.
