Real-world information
Mannekin Pis, translated as "Little Pissing Man" in Dutch, is a bronze fountain statue in the capital city of Belgium, Brussels. It depicts a naked little boy urinating into the fountain, called a puer mingens. The statue was originally designed by Jérôme Duquesnoy the Elder and was installed around 1618 or 1619. The original statue was repeatedly stolen or damaged throughout its history. After Mannekin Pis disappeared once again in 1965 and subsequently found the next year, a replica of the statue has replaced the original statue at the fountain, while the original statue is now kept and displayed in the Brussels City Museum.
Mannekin Pis is a cultural icon of Brussels and Belgium, and the Order of the Friends of Manneken Pis has dedicated itself to preserve traditions related to the statue, including decorating the boy with various costumes. More information on this topic is available at Wikipedia.
