"This famous piece by Velázquez, who served the Spanish court, shows us something about perspective. It depicts a young princess with her "ladies-in-waiting." The artist himself is seen to the left. The king and queen are reflected in the mirror to the artist's right, so the perspective is that of the king. The king...watching the artist...paint the king and the queen..."
— Art description

The solemn painting is a wall-mounted furniture item in Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduced in the 1.2.0 April Free Update. In addition to walls, it can be placed on the floor, being displayed on an easel. As a painting, it can be donated to the museum. It also has a forgery version that cannot be donated or sold. The artwork depicts Las Meninas, drawn circa 1656 by Spanish artist Diego Velázquez.

The solemn painting can be obtained from Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler or Redd's Co-Op on Harv's Island for  4,980 Bells or from any villager in the mailbox.

No villagers have this item in their home.

In Happy Home Paradise, this item is unlocked for use in designing when doing a vacation home request for Monique.
