'Dodos are a species of flightless birds in the Animal Crossing series, first introduced in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Orville and Wilbur, who work at the Airport, are the only two dodos to appear. However, it is suggested that there are more: If the player uses the island designer app while trying to open the airport gates or go on a flight, Orville will close it and mention that dodos from other airports make fun of them if they forget this step.
Orville and Wilbur's names are derived from the names of the Wright Brothers, who built the world's first successful motor airplane. Their service and names are a playful tease on the dodos' inability to fly. They are the first species introduced in Animal Crossing that are extinct in the real world. Their closest living relatives are the Nicobar pigeons.
