Ostriches are a species of bird villager in the Animal Crossing series. They are mainly differentiated from the generic bird villagers by their prominent necks and fan-like tail feathers. Not all villagers in this category necessarily resemble ostriches; villagers in this category can represent peafowl, cranes, pheasants, flamingos, and storks. The species contains villagers based on many other birds that are larger than typical passerines.

There are twelve ostriches so far, of which eight are female and four are male, making it a predominantly female species. Of these, three are snooty, two are normal, two are jock, two are peppy, one is lazy, one is smug, and one is big sister. There are currently no cranky ostriches.

Nindori is the only ostrich who has not reappeared since Doubutsu no Mori e+. All of the ostriches who appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons also appear in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. Additionally, Queenie is the only ostrich to appear in every game so far.

In Animal Crossing and Animal Crossing: Wild World, ostriches cannot be one of the starting villagers in the player's town.

While Nindori, Queenie, Rio and Sandy seem to be based on actual ostriches, most other villagers belonging to this species resemble in fact other types of birds:

Blanche is based on a swan, most likely a trumpeter swan;
Cranston is based on a white ibis;
Flora is based on a flamingo, with her beak also being flamingo-like, different from the other ostrich villagers;
Gladys is based on a red-crowned crane;
Julia is based on a peacock, albeit with the coloration found in males rather than females;
Phil is based on a pheasant;
Phoebe is based on a phoenix, a mythological bird.
