Gorillas are a species of monkey villagers in the Animal Crossing series, despite appearing before the monkey became a villager species. They are mainly differentiated from monkeys by their large, tailless bodies, in addition to having separately rendered jaws, a prominent brow, hands shaped like boxing gloves, and human-like ears. In the real world, gorillas are the largest primate and the second-closest DNA match to humans.
In Animal Crossing: Wild World, only male gorillas made an appearance. There are twelve gorilla villagers so far, of which eight are male and four are female. Of these, three are cranky, two are jocks, two are lazy, two are snooty, one is peppy, one is uchi, and one is smug. One of the snooty gorillas, Violet, was a peppy villager until Animal Crossing: City Folk. Currently, no gorillas have a normal personality. Additionally, only Jane and Yodel do not appear in Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, the former of which may be due to her controversial appearance in Japan, and her western appearance being very similar to that of Violet.
