Gorillas are a species of villager in the Animal Crossing series. They are mainly differentiated from monkeys by their large, tailless bodies, in addition to having separately rendered jaws, a prominent brow, hands shaped like boxing gloves, and human-like ears. In the real world, gorillas are the largest primate and the third-closest DNA match to humans after the two species of chimpanzee.
There are twelve gorilla villagers so far, one of which is an islander, and one of which was previously an islander. Eight are male and four are female, making it a predominantly male species. Of these, three are cranky, two are lazy, two are jocks, two are snooty, one is peppy, one is smug, and one is big sister. One of the snooty gorillas, Violet, had a peppy personality prior to Animal Crossing: City Folk. There are currently no normal gorillas.
Jane and Yodel are the only gorillas who have not reappeared since Doubutsu no Mori e+. All of the gorillas who appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons also appear in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. Rilla was initially absent in New Horizons, but she reappeared in the 1.9.0 Free Update. In New Horizons, every gorilla except Rilla has the fitness hobby.
