Chickens are a species of bird villager in the Animal Crossing series. They are characterized by their cockscombs. They also have small heads which end in a ruff of feathers, with the exception of Knox, who wears a helmet. Unlike their real-life counterparts, chickens in Animal Crossing lack wattles, and their combs are of equal size on either gender.
There are fourteen chicken villagers so far, of which seven are male and seven are female. Of these, three are jock, three are snooty, two are lazy, two are normal, one is peppy, one is cranky, one is smug, and one is big sister. Plucky was originally a peppy islander before becoming a big sister villager in Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo. Betty, Hank, Hector, Leigh, and Rhoda are the only chickens who have not reappeared since Doubutsu no Mori e+. Becky, Broffina, and Ken are also absent from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
- All three chickens who appear in Animal Crossing: Wild World are male.
- Of the nine chickens available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, five of them have birthdays in October. Ava, Becky, and Ken are the only chickens without a fall birthday.
