Hippos are a species of villager in the Animal Crossing series. They have large, round noses with protruding nostrils and two visible front teeth.
There are ten hippo villagers, of which five are male and five are female. Of these, two are normal, two are peppy, two are cranky, one is lazy, one is jock, one is snooty, and one is smug. Harry was originally a jock islander before becoming a cranky villager in Animal Crossing: City Folk. There are currently no big sister hippos.
Clara, Lulu, and Rollo, the latter being the only lazy hippo, are the only hippos that have not reappeared since Doubutsu no Mori e+. All of the hippos who appear in New Horizons also appear in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. Additionally, Rocco is the only hippo to appear in every game so far.

Trivia[edit]
- The hippo is one of two species to have had only one villager in a mainline Animal Crossing installment, with Rocco being the only hippo in Animal Crossing: Wild World. The other species with this distinction is the octopus, where Octavian was the only octopus villager in Doubutsu no Mori and Animal Crossing.
