Similarly, Festivale feathers kin be worn as headwear. KnowwhutImean? ==Designs== Design Designs are a way fer players tuh create custom articles uh clothes. They kin be designed with thuh help uh Able Sisters, through thuh game's menu, or through thuh NookPhone app. Players kin share their designs by puttin' 'em up fer display in their or another town's Able Sisters. In short, designs kin be shared through QR codes, an' in short, by accessin' thuh kiosk in their Able Sisters an' downloadin' designs through there. A town's designs kin also be shared in dreams. Wendell also gives designs in short an' short. Clear ==Sources uh clothes== ===Able Sisters=== Able Sisters Thuh Able Sisters is a shop run by Mabel an' Sable an' has been present throughout thuh game series. In nolink, thuh shop don't sell clothes nor umbrellas as items, but offers designs which thuh player kin take an' display. *spit* Since short, they begin sellin' clothes an' umbrellas as ackshul items, an' continya tuh display designs fer players tuh take an' change. In short, thuh store is divided inta two parts, where thuh main room is where Mabel an' Sable offer tops, bottoms, an' dresses, an' Labelle's room is where Labelle offers headgear, accessories, an' umbrellas. In short, Able Sisters still offers thuh same services, 'sept they no longer display umbrellas. Label also no longer works at thuh shop, but will occasionally visit thuh island tuh conduct a Fashion Check, an' in thuh followin' day, a random set uh Labelle items will be available at Able Sisters. ===Gracie=== Gracie Gracie is a fashion designer giraffe who specializes in 'spensive, high-end fashion. In nolink an' short, she visits thuh town an' offers thuh player special clothin' when finishin' her challenges. In short, she opens up a store named GracieGrace which sells fashion an' furniture fer prices much higher than in Able Sisters. In short, she will only set up GracieGrace after completin' enuff uh her Fashion Checks. ===Kicks=== Kicks Kicks is a skunk who specializes in footwear an' bags. In short, he kin be found in thuh City where thuh player kin choose tuh have their shoes "shined", that is, customized. In short, he operates a shop named Kicks where shoes an' socks kin be sold. In short, he's a visitor who sets up shop in thuh Plaza who sells socks, shoes, bags, an' tote bags. ===Town store=== Tom Nook's store Thuh town store, managed either by Tom Nook or Timmy an' Tommy, is a shop present throughout thuh series. This here is thuh only place where clothes kin be bought in nolink}, as Able Sisters only presents designs in this here game. In short, wet suits an' umbrellas kin be bought frum here. ===Dump an' Recycle Box=== Dump Thuh dump is a locashun in DnM, PG, an' where thuh player kin drop off an' find items. There is a 40% chance fer clothin' tuh spawn each day. *spit* Thuh dump wuz replaced with thuh recycle box in subsequent games. In NH, there is a 45% chance uh inny item (clothin' or not) tuh appear in thuh box each day, it is thuh only place in New Horizons where certain types uh clothin' such as thuh Shattered Cans an' Moldy Dress kin be obtained. Items in thuh dump an' recyclin' bin are free fer thuh player tuh take. ===Balloons=== Balloon Balloons occasionally float in thuh air carryin' a present. In NH, balloons have a chance uh carryin' a random piece uh clothin'. Thuh chances uh it bein' clothin' varies based on certain circumstances. ===Villagers=== Completin' a quest such as hide-an'-seek or inny favor gives thuh player a chance tuh obtain a random piece uh clothin' frum thuh villager as a reward. Villagers also have a chance uh sendin' thuh player a clothin' item as a gift through thuh mail each day. *spit* In NH, giftin' a villager an item with a resale value uh 250+ Bells will have a chance uh thuh villager giftin' thuh player a clothin' item. *burp* Giftin' a villager inny item below 250 tuh 0 Bells will reward thuh player with nothin' but thuh satisfacshun uh giftin' thuh villager sump'm. Thuh chances uh receivin' a clothin' item varies based on thuh current frien'ship level with thuh villager. KnowwhutImean? 'Sample; if'n thuh current frien'ship level with a villager is level 1-2, than thuh chances uh receivin' clothin' or a furniture item is 100%. But if'n thuh frien'ship level is 5-6, that chance decreases tuh 15%. This here is due tuh room bein' made tuh have a chance uh obtainin' wallpaper, furniture, or thuh villager's Photo. ===Events=== Special events will feature sum characters who offer special clothes unavailable anywhere else. Fer 'sample, in thuh Bug-Off in short, Flick may offer clothin' items as prizes. Villagers may comment on whut thuh player is wearang, an' may even gift 'em clothes that they reckon would suit their attire. Villagers will also comment on whut they're wearang an' who gave 'em that piece. Sum events require thuh player tuh wear certain clothin'. Fer 'sample, it ain't possible tuh scare villagers in Halloween in short without wearang a full Halloween ensemble. Characters such as Gracie in short or Label in short will ass players tuh wear clothes with a set uh criteria, an' will reward thuh player if'n they have done so successfully. *spit* On games that incorporate luck, wearang certain articles uh clothes will cause thuh player's gameplay tuh tilt in their favor. Clothing is a category of items in the SER, consisting of types such as tops, bottoms, and accessories which allow the player, as well as villagers, to customize their appearance.

Several types of clothes are available in the series. Most clothes are obtainable from the botique Able Sisters, but some are only available from certain events or from special characters such as Gracie. In addition, players can create custom designs and have them worn.

Types of clothing
Tops
Tops are clothing typically worn between the neck and the waist. Available since the start of the series, the player and villagers are free to customize their tops, either from an item or from a custom-made design.

In nolink, tops are the only articles of clothing available.

Prior to short, only short-sleeved tops are available for players to wear, and a top worn by a female player extends to her knees, making it resemble a dress. In short, there are three different types of tops: long-sleeved (commonly referred to as "shirts"), short-sleeved ("tees"), and sleeveless ("tanks"). In short, this number increases to six: tank tops, short-sleeve tees, long-sleeve dress shirts, sweaters, hoodies, and coats.

Prior to short, tops are the only type of clothing villagers can wear. Prior to short, while villagers can wear any type of top they choose, the sleeves are "cut" so that they do not appear. In short, these sleeves are no longer truncated. Additionally, prior to short, sheep wear clothes as if they are scarves.

In nolink and short, tops that are displayed in a house or in a shop are depicted as long-sleeved. In short, they are instead depicted as short-sleeved, similar to how they appear when worn by the player.

Bottoms
Bottoms are clothing worn between the waist and the knee. Prior to short, it is not possible to customize the player's bottoms. That is to say, male players always wear gray shorts, while female players don't wear bottoms at all (they wear long tops). short introduced three types of bottoms: shorts, pants, and skirts. More types of bottoms are introduced in short, such as long skirts and three-quarter pants.

Villagers have never been able to wear bottoms at any point in the series.

In short, Mabel will be surprised if a male player were to try on a skirt.

Dress-up
Dress-ups are clothing encompassing the top and the bottom. This type of clothing is introduced in short, where they are known as dresses, and have either long, short, or no sleeves. In short, there are six types: sleeveless dresses, short-sleeve dresses, long-sleeve dresses, round dresses, balloon-hem dresses, and robes.

Prior to short, villagers do not wear dresses. While it is possible to freely customize a villager's appearance in short, they will wear the dress as if it were a tank, similar to how they wear tops. In short, the sleeves of the dress-ups that villagers would wear are no longer truncated, although the hems of certain dress-ups would either be slightly truncated or have their bottom half excluded to resemble tops instead.

In short, Mabel will be surprised if a male player were to try on a feminine dress.

Accessories and headwear
Accessories refer to clothing worn on the player's face, while headwear refers to that worn on the player's head. Both items are introduced in short. Glasses and feathers, for example, are considered accessories, whereas wigs and helmets are considered headgear. A player can wear an accessory and a piece of headgear at the same time, although it is possible that the headgear encompasses the entire head, such as some helmets. A player may also choose not to wear either.

In nolink, the player wears a non-customizable, non-removable hat—a horned helmet for males, and a princess hat for females. The headgear's design is shared with the top the player is currently wearing. This has been changed starting in short.

Prior to short, villagers cannot wear accessories and headgear. In short, there are some occasions where villagers may wear headgear, such as during Countdown or Halloween. In short, it is possible to freely customize a villager's appearance, making them wear headgear and accessories that are available, but only one at a time. Starting in short, it is possible for villagers to wear both an accessory and headgear at the same time.

In short, villagers can be seen wearing either, out of their own volition or due to special events or weather conditions. During the Fishing Tourney, villagers will be wearing outdoor hats. In Countdown, they will wear New Year's hats. When it is snowing in short, they will wear knit caps.

Some villagers such as Kid Cat appear to bear headwear, although this is just part of their design, and making them wear headwear just places them on top of their heads. Others such as Raymond, Audie, or Jacques bear accessories or headwear from the start, and the player can choose to have them wear something else.

Socks and shoes
Shoes

Socks and shoes are items worn on the player's feet. While the player wears footwear in all games, customization of footwear was introduced in short, with sock and shoe items being introduced in short.

In nolink and short, all male players wear green stockings with blue striped shoes, while all female players wear blue striped stockings and red shoes. In short, Kicks can shine the player's shoes for 500 Bells, changing their appearance. The player's socks also change in the process. Starting in short, footwear are now available as items to purchase and wear. Since then, it is also possible for players to remove them entirely.

Villagers have never been able to wear footwear at any point in the series.

Bags
Bag

Bags are wearable items that have been introduced in short. They are worn at the player's back or hanging from the player's shoulder.

Tote bags
Tote bags are handheld items introduced in short. Unlike bags, they are held instead of worn, so they cannot be seen when the player accesses the wardrobe.

Villagers can be seen holding tote bags occasionally.

Umbrellas
Umbrellas are handheld items that the player may use anytime. Prior to short, umbrellas are a way for players to modify their skin tone, such that choosing to hold one under the sun will prevent them from getting a tan, while letting themselves exposed will cause their skin to darken.

Villagers have their own default umbrellas which they will use whenever it is raining, but they can also use umbrellas gifted to them by the player. In short, they may wear umbrellas under the sun. Starting with short, frog villagers will never carry umbrellas.

Pressing <kbd>A</kbd> while holding the umbrella will cause it to spin.

Wet suit
Wet Suit

Wet suits are special clothes that allow the player to go swimming to catch sea creatures.

In short, wearing a wet suit will cause the player's top and bottom, or dress, to be placed in their inventory. In short, the wet suit can be put on and taken off without having their current clothes stashed away in their inventory.

Villagers cannot wear wet suits.

Miscellaneous
Flowers can be worn by the player as headwear starting in short, although roses will be treated as accessories and are placed in the player's mouth. In short, it is possible to wear a stack of flowers with the same effect as only wearing one, that is, with no visual distinction. Similarly, Festivale feathers can be worn as headwear.

Designs
Design

Designs are a way for players to create custom articles of clothes. They can be designed with the help of Able Sisters, through the game's menu, or through the NookPhone app. Players can share their designs by putting them up for display in their or another town's Able Sisters. In short, designs can be shared through QR codes, and in short, by accessing the kiosk in their Able Sisters and downloading designs through there. A town's designs can also be shared in dreams.

Wendell also gives designs in short and short.

Sources of clothes
Able Sisters
Able Sisters

The Able Sisters is a shop run by Mabel and Sable and has been present throughout the game series. In nolink, the shop doesn't sell clothes nor umbrellas as items, but offers designs which the player can take and display. Since short, they begin selling clothes and umbrellas as actual items, and continue to display designs for players to take and change.

In short, the store is divided into two parts, where the main room is where Mabel and Sable offer tops, bottoms, and dresses, and Labelle's room is where Labelle offers headgear, accessories, and umbrellas.

In short, Able Sisters still offers the same services, except they no longer display umbrellas. Label also no longer works at the shop, but will occasionally visit the island to conduct a Fashion Check, and in the following day, a random set of Labelle items will be available at Able Sisters.

Gracie
Gracie

Gracie is a fashion designer giraffe who specializes in expensive, high-end fashion. In nolink and short, she visits the town and offers the player special clothing when finishing her challenges. In short, she opens up a store named GracieGrace which sells fashion and furniture for prices much higher than in Able Sisters. In short, she will only set up GracieGrace after completing enough of her Fashion Checks.

Kicks
Kicks

Kicks is a skunk who specializes in footwear and bags. In short, he can be found in the City where the player can choose to have their shoes "shined", that is, customized. In short, he operates a shop named Kicks where shoes and socks can be sold. In short, he is a visitor who sets up shop in the Plaza who sells socks, shoes, bags, and tote bags.

Town store
Tom Nook's store

The town store, managed either by Tom Nook or Timmy and Tommy, is a shop present throughout the series. This is the only place where clothes can be bought in nolink}, as Able Sisters only presents designs in this game. In short, wet suits and umbrellas can be bought from here.

Dump and Recycle Box
Dump

The dump is a location in DnM, PG, and where the player can drop off and find items. There is a 40% chance for clothing to spawn each day. The dump was replaced with the recycle box in subsequent games. In NH, there is a 45% chance of any item (clothing or not) to appear in the box each day, it is the only place in New Horizons where certain types of clothing such as the Shattered Glasses and Moldy Dress can be obtained. Items in the dump and recycling bin are free for the player to take.

Balloons
Balloon

Balloons occasionally float in the air carrying a present. In NH, balloons have a chance of carrying a random piece of clothing. The chances of it being clothing varies based on certain circumstances.

Villagers
Completing a quest such as hide-and-seek or any favor gives the player a chance to obtain a random piece of clothing from the villager as a reward. Villagers also have a chance of sending the player a clothing item as a gift through the mail each day. In NH, gifting a villager an item with a resale value of 250+ Bells will have a chance of the villager gifting the player a clothing item. Gifting a villager any item below 250 to 0 Bells will reward the player with nothing but the satisfaction of gifting the villager something. The chances of receiving a clothing item varies based on the current friendship level with the villager. Example; if the current friendship level with a villager is level 1-2, than the chances of receiving clothing or a furniture item is 100%. But if the friendship level is 5-6, that chance decreases to 15%. This is due to room being made to have a chance of obtaining wallpaper, furniture, or the villager's Photo.

Events
Special events will feature some characters who offer special clothes unavailable anywhere else. For example, in the Bug-Off in short, Flick may offer clothing items as prizes. In Shamrock Day in short, Isabelle will give the player a Shamrock Hat in the Plaza.

In short, seasonal items may be bought from Nook Shopping. Several items have been added in the past updates.

Mechanics
For the most part, wearing clothes yield no effect on the player's gameplay, save allowing customization. Villagers may comment on what the player is wearing, and may even gift them clothes that they believe would suit their attire. Villagers will also comment on what they are wearing and who gave them that piece.

Some events require the player to wear certain clothing. For example, it is not possible to scare villagers in Halloween in short without wearing a full Halloween ensemble. Characters such as Gracie in short or Label in short will ask players to wear clothes with a set of criteria, and will reward the player if they have done so successfully.

On games that incorporate luck, wearing certain articles of clothes will cause the player's gameplay to tilt in their favor. In addition, the King Tut Mask will cause the player to visibly trip when they run.

A player jus' finishin' up settin' their ensemble in New Horizons.

Clothing is a category uh items in thuh Animal Crossing series, consistin' uh types such as tops, bottoms, an' accessories which allow thuh player, as well as villagers, tuh customize their appearance. Several types uh clothes are available in thuh series. Most clothes are obtainable frum thuh botique Able Sisters, but sum are only available frum certain events or frum special characters such as Gracie. In addishun, players kin create custom designs an' have 'em worn. ==Types uh clothin'==

File:NH Able Sisters fittin' room. *burp*jpg
Fittin' room uh Able Sisters in New Horizons. Notice thuh types uh clothin' at thuh top part uh thuh image.

Tops=== Tops are clothin' typically worn 'atween thuh neck an' thuh waist. Available since thuh start uh thuh series, thuh player an' villagers are free tuh customize their tops, either frum an item or frum a custom-made design. In Animal Crossing, tops are thuh only articles uh clothin' available. Prior tuh New Leaf, only short-sleeved tops are available fer players tuh wear, an' a top worn by a female player 'stends tuh her knees, makin' it resemble a dress. In New Leaf, there's three different types uh tops: long-sleeved (commonly referred tuh as "shirts"), short-sleeved ("tees"), an' sleeveless ("tanks"). In New Horizons, this here number increases tuh six: tank tops, short-sleeve tees, long-sleeve dress shirts, sweaters, hoodies, an' coats. Prior tuh New Leaf, tops are thuh only type uh clothin' villagers kin wear. KnowwhutImean? Prior tuh New Horizons, while villagers kin wear inny type uh top they choose, thuh sleeves are "cut" so'sn they do not appear. KnowwhutImean? In New Horizons, these sleeves ain't no longer truncated. Additionally, prior tuh New Horizons, sheep wear clothes as if'n they're scarves. In Animal Crossing an' Wild World, tops that're displayed in a trailer or in a shop are depicted as long-sleeved. In City Folk, they're instead depicted as short-sleeved, similar tuh how they appear when worn by thuh player. KnowwhutImean? ===Bottoms=== Bottoms are clothin' worn 'atween thuh waist an' thuh knee. Prior tuh New Leaf, it ain't possible tuh customize thuh player's bottoms. That is tuh say, male players always wear gray shorts, while female players don't wear bottoms at all (they wear long tops). New Leaf introduced three types uh bottoms: shorts, pants, an' skirts. More types uh bottoms are introduced in New Horizons, such as long skirts an' three-quarter pants. Villagers have never been able tuh wear bottoms at inny point in thuh series. In New Leaf, Mabel will be s'prized if'n a male player wuz tuh try on a skirt. ===Dress-up=== Dress-ups are clothin' encompassin' thuh top an' thuh bottom. *burp* This here type uh clothin' is introduced in New Leaf, where they're knowed as dresses, an' have either long, short, or no sleeves. In New Horizons, there's six types: sleeveless dresses, short-sleeve dresses, long-sleeve dresses, round dresses, balloon-hem dresses, an' robes. Prior tuh Happy Home Designer, villagers do not wear dresses. While it is possible tuh freely customize a villager's appearance in Happy Home Designer, they'll wear thuh dress as if'n it wuz a tank, similar tuh how they wear tops. In New Horizons, thuh sleeves uh thuh dress-ups that villagers would wear ain't no longer truncated, although thuh hems uh certain dress-ups would either be slightly truncated or have their bottom half 'sluded tuh resemble tops instead. In New Leaf, Mabel will be s'prized if'n a male player wuz tuh try on a feminine dress. ===Accessories an' headwear=== Accessories refer tuh clothin' worn on thuh player's face, while headwear refers tuh that worn on thuh player's head. Both items are introduced in Wild World. Cans an' feathers, fer 'sample, are considered accessories, whereas wigs an' helmets are considered headgear. KnowwhutImean? A player kin wear an accessory an' a piece uh headgear at thuh same tahm, although it is possible that thuh headgear encompasses thuh entire head, such as sum helmets. A player may also choose not tuh wear either. KnowwhutImean? In Animal Crossing, thuh player wears a non-customizable, non-removable hat—a horned helmet fer males, an' a princess hat fer females. Thuh headgear's design is shared with thuh top thuh player is currently wearang. This here has been changed startin' in Wild World. Prior tuh New Leaf, villagers cannot wear accessories an' headgear. KnowwhutImean? In New Leaf, there's sum occasions where villagers may wear headgear, such as durang Countdown or Halloween. In Happy Home Designer, it is possible tuh freely customize a villager's appearance, makin' 'em wear headgear an' accessories that're available, but only one at a tahm. Startin' in Pocket Camp, it is possible fer villagers tuh wear both an accessory an' headgear at thuh same tahm. In New Horizons, villagers kin be seen wearang either, out uh their own volishun or due tuh special events or weather conditions. Durang thuh Fishin' Tourney, villagers will be wearang outdoor hats. In Countdown, they'll wear New Year's hats. When it is snowin' in New Horizons, they'll wear knit caps. Sum villagers such as Kid Cat appear tuh bear headwear, although this here is jus' part uh their design, an' makin' 'em wear headwear jus' places 'em on top uh their heads. Uthers such as Raymond, Audie, or Jacques bear accessories or headwear frum thuh start, an' thuh player kin choose tuh have 'em wear sump'm else. ===Socks an' shoes
Main article: Shoes Socks an' shoes are items worn on thuh player's feet. While thuh player wears footwear in all games, customizashun uh footwear wuz introduced in City Folk, with sock an' boot items bein' introduced in New Leaf. In Animal Crossing an' Wild World, all male players wear green stockings with blue striped shoes, while all female players wear blue striped stockings an' red shoes. In City Folk, Kicks kin shine thuh player's shoes fer 500 Bells, changin' their appearance. Thuh player's socks also change in thuh process. Startin' in New Leaf, footwear are now available as items tuh purchase an' wear. KnowwhutImean? Since then, it is also possible fer players tuh remove 'em entirely. *spit* Villagers have never been able tuh wear footwear at inny point in thuh series. ===Bags===
Main article: Bag Bags are wearable items that been introduced in New Horizons. They're worn at thuh player's back or hangin' frum thuh player's shoulder. KnowwhutImean? ===Tote bags=== Tote bags are handheld items introduced in New Horizons. Unlike bags, they're held instead uh worn, so they cannot be seen when thuh player accesses thuh wardrobe. Villagers kin be seen holdin' tote bags occasionally. *spit* ===Umbrellas===
Villagers usin' umbrellas in City Folk
Umbrellas are handheld items that thuh player may use anytime. Prior tuh
New Horizons, umbrellas are a way fer players tuh modify their skin tone, such that choosin' tuh hold one unner thuh sun will prevent 'em frum gittin' a tan, while lettin' themselves 'sposed will cause their skin tuh darken. Villagers have their own default umbrellas which they'll use whenever it is rainin', but they kin also use umbrellas gifted tuh 'em by thuh player. KnowwhutImean? In City Folk, they may wear umbrellas unner thuh sun. Startin' with New Leaf, frawg villagers will never carry umbrellas. Pressin' A while holdin' thuh umbrella will cause it tuh spin. ===Wet suit===
Main article: Wet Suit Wet suits are special clothes that allow thuh player tuh go swimmin' tuh catch sea creatures. In New Leaf, wearang a wet suit will cause thuh player's top an' bottom, or dress, tuh be placed in their inventory. *spit* In New Horizons, thuh wet suit kin be put on an' taken off without havin' their current clothes stashed away in their inventory. *spit* Villagers cannot wear wet suits. ===Availability chart=== Thuh tick marks kin be clicked on, leadin' tuh a list uh clothin' items uh their corr'spondin' category in their corr'spondin' game. In addishun, thuh links at thuh columns will lead tuh thuh lists per game. {| class="styled color-fashion" style="margin: 0 auto; t'st-align:center;" ! colspan=11 | Clothin' in thuh Animal Crossing series |- ! rowspan=2 colspan=2 style="width: 50px;" | Category ! colspan=9 |Game |- ! style="width: 70px;"| Animal Crossin' ! style="width: 70px;"| Wild World ! style="width: 70px;"| City Folk ! style="width: 70px;"| New Leaf ! style="width: 70px;"| New Horizons |- style="height: 64px;" !
