A furniture set is a small collection of related furniture items. They do not usually have a matching wall or floor. Many sets appear in the series, and most are obtained from Tom Nook's store or Timmy and Tommy's store.

Complete set bonus
Happy Room Academy (Happy Home Academy in Animal Crossing: New Leaf) bonuses for complete sets are 1,000 points times the number of items in the set. For example, the Chess Set in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, with 6 items, will score (6 * 1,000) = 6,000 bonus points.
