Stationery
Stationery are items that can be used to write letters.
In games prior to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, most stationery can be purchased from Tom Nook's store or Timmy and Tommy's store in packs of four. Prior to City Folk, the stationery used on a letter the player receives is added to their catalog. Some stationery cannot be obtained by the player and can only be added to the catalog when receiving letters from special senders.
In New Horizons, stationery is replaced with cards, which are chosen in the airport when sending a letter. Cards function the same as stationery but do not go into the player's pockets and thus are not items.
Appearances[edit]
In the first-generation games[edit]
A total of 64 stationery items appear in the first-generation games. One stationery in Doubutsu no Mori and Doubutsu no Mori+, the danger paper, is replaced with the orange paper, in Animal Crossing and Doubutsu no Mori e+.
Stationery can be purchased in packs of four from Tom Nook's store for 160 Bells.[nb 1] It can also be obtained from the dump, the Lost & Found, Wisp, and villagers. Three types of stationery—the fortune paper, wing paper, and new year's card—can only be cataloged from received letters and cannot be obtained as items.
In Wild World[edit]
A total of 63 stationery items appear in Animal Crossing: Wild World.
Stationery can be purchased in packs of four from Tom Nook's store for 160 Bells. Eight types of stationery—the academy paper, formal paper, fox paper, insurance paper, nook paper, snowman paper, Tortimer paper, and town-hall paper—can only be cataloged from received letters and cannot be obtained as items.
In City Folk[edit]
A total of 64 types of stationery appear in Animal Crossing: City Folk, with 56 appearing in the catalog.
Stationery can be purchased in packs of four from Tom Nook's store for 160 Bells. Eight types of stationery—the academy paper, auction paper, formal paper, Halloween paper, lantern paper, nook paper, snowman paper, and Tortimer paper—can only be viewed in received letters, do not appear in the catalog, and cannot be obtained as items.
In New Leaf[edit]
A total of 64 types of stationery appear in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. In addition to standard stationery, melody paper, which allows the player to attach a town tune to a letter, can be purchased.
Stationery can be purchased in packs of four from Timmy and Tommy's store for 160 Bells. In the original version of the game, the six types of stationery that are usually only used by special characters—the academy paper, gallery paper, Halloween paper, museum paper, post-office paper, and snowman paper—can only be obtained from villagers in the mail in return for sending them a gift. These items were not reorderable with the exception of the academy paper, which could also be obtained from the lost and found as a result of this. In the Welcome amiibo update, these items were made unobtainable and were removed from the catalog. Three new unobtainable stationeries were also added: the campground paper, Nintendo paper, and Nook's Homes paper.
In New Horizons[edit]
A total of 68 cards appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Unlike in previous games, cards cannot be obtained as items.
Cards can be sent at the airport for 200 Bells. Some cards are themed around seasons or events and are only available for a limited time.
