In Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise, the player primarily develops with Paradise Planning on an archipelago, a series of islands that feature various geographic features and seasonal differences. Each island also includes a peak season that is the default setting of each island when selected. The player can choose to change what season the island is set under.
The main island of the archipelago is located on D-4, featuring various coconut trees, pink-plumeria bushes, and white-plumeria bushes. The island features a dock on the bottom, where the player can talk to Niko to boat ride to the other islands on the archipelago. On the bottom beach, various villagers will wander around, either residing underneath the sun or sitting on a chair. The café is located close to the beach, where the player can purchase food items from the assigned staff.
After the beach lies the Paradise Planning office, where the player primarily works and where villagers or special characters will come to ask the player for a vacation home. Next to the building is the school, where the player may occasionally come to in order to learn new features for Paradise Planning, such as hybrid flowers and placing bugs. After crossing the small river via a brown suspension bridge on the right side of the Paradise Planning office, the player will find the restaurant to obtain a new cooking recipe from the chef daily, and the apparel shop to purchase clothing.
Next to the apparel shop is a natural stone archway that extends from the beach to the ocean. At the top of the beach is where villagers who already have a completed vacation home will play, swim, and interact with outside objects. DJ KK's music festival will take place here, and the player can invite villagers or special characters that are located on the main island to dance with them here. A gray log bench also lies on this beach, where the player will learn soundscapes from Wardell.
Above the school is the hospital, where the player can do a routine checkup to obtain a new clothing item from the doctor depending on the questions the player answers. Above this area is a small ruins, with a ruined arch in the center and various ruined decorated pillar, ruined broken pillars, and glowing mosses lying around. This can be accessed by climbing up with a vine or a vine ladder set-up kit placed on the island. The player can collect the glowing mosses and vines from this section, and these elements will gradually regenerate every new day.
Blue recolors of the yellow birds (from the player's bulletin board appear in the main island during the day where they can be scared off by the player by being near to them. During the night, they are replaced by brown recolors of the white owls where they are seen perched up on the roofs of buildings or at the top of the pillars and arch found nearby.
