Penguins are a species of bird villager in the Animal Crossing series. They are mainly differentiated from the generic bird villagers by their wider bodies, short stumpy tails, and their feet resembling those of the ducks. In addition to this, Boomer, Puck, and Chabwick all wear headgear, while Hopper has prominent eyebrows.
There are fifteen penguin villagers, of which ten are male and five are female, making it a predominantly male species. Of these, five are lazy, three are jock, two are snooty, one is normal, one is peppy, one is cranky, one is smug, and one is big sister.
Analog is the only penguin who has not reappeared since Doubutsu no Mori e+. Gwen is also absent from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, eleven of the thirteen penguin villagers share a common theme to their house interiors, assuming they are not among the first five villagers on an island, having either Ice or Iceberg walls and flooring, as well as multiple pieces of Frozen Series furniture. The exceptions, Cube and Friga, still have similarly themed default interiors, with Cube's featuring a snowflake wall and Friga's resembling the inside of an igloo.
Some of their catchphrases sound like they are shivering. For example, Aurora’s catchphrase is "b-b-baby" and Roald’s catchphrase is "b-b-buddy."
