January is the first month in the year. During January, there is still snow on the ground that fell in December. This snow can be used to make a snowman. In the Southern Hemisphere in New Horizons, it is considered one of the summer months that occur during this period.

On New Year's Day the player can also get a party popper from Tortimer.

In Wild World this event occurs on the third Saturday of January.
In Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf this event occurs on the third Sunday of January and enables the player to catch some special fish that day.
