May Day is an event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduced in the 1.2.0 April Free Update that is held from April 29 to May 7.[nb 1] During the event, if the player speaks to Tom Nook in Resident Services, he explains that May Day celebrates those who work hard and informs the player about a special May Day Tour, similar to a Mystery Island Tour. He then tells the player he reserved a May Day Ticket for them, which can be retrieved at the airport.

The May Day Ticket can be used to go on the May Day Tour, where the player arrives with an empty inventory on an island which mostly contains a maze made of hedges. Tools, fruits, and materials must be picked up in order for the player to remove rocks, trees, and bushes to get to the goal where Rover is waiting. A second island was added in the 1.10.0 Free Update, along with a second prize.

When the goal is reached, Rover congratulates the player and gives them a prize: Rover's Briefcase or Rover's Photo. Using the Rescue Service during the May Day Tour will reset the island and clear the player's inventory, including any Bell Vouchers, but excluding the prize.

Items collected on the May Day Tour cannot be brought back from the island, with the exception of the prize and Bell Vouchers, which are mailed to the player by Dodo Airlines immediately. The island cannot be revisited after leaving until the next year's May Day.

Island layout

First island

Four Bell Vouchers can be obtained in the northeast corner of the island, which is accessible after reaching the goal. Additionally, five more Bell Vouchers are located in the southwest corner of the island, behind rocks. If the player conserved enough of the fruit found on the island, the leftover fruit can be used to to break the rocks and gain access to the Bell Vouchers located in the southwest corner of the island.
