In CF, donating to the Town Fund can be done by going to the Town Hall and talking to either Pelly or Phyllis at the window for the Civic Center, and selecting Town Fund from the list of options. Donating to the Town Fund achieves a new bridge, fountain, and a windmill or lighthouse.

Remember, the location voted for may not win the majority of votes, so don't feel discouraged if the bridge is built in an area you don't feel is right. Pelly and Phyllis will mention it is in the process of being built when you talk to them.

Once donating a further 1,000,000 Bells to the Town Fund, a windmill OR lighthouse will be built, depending on which one wins enough votes by the town people. Either of the two appear by the shoreline, on noticeable peninsulas in the land. They serve no purpose, and only exist as a decoration and cannot be entered - rumor has it that the windmill increases the beauty of the town, while the lighthouse improves the appearances of rare fish, neither have been proven true by Nintendo, and community testing suggests this is a myth.

Donations to the Town Fund are not cumulative. Any Bells donated in excess (e.g. should the player donate 210,000 Bells at once for the Bridge) will be lost and won't be put forward to the next attraction (e.g. 10,000 Bells will be lost). It is recommended that players note how much they have donated to prevent over-donating and thus wasting bells.

The player donating to the town fund

The town fund is a feature in Animal Crossing: City Folk that the player can donate Bells to to have structures built in town. It can be donated to at the civic center at town hall.

Donating to the town fund results in the creation of a new bridge, a fountain, and or lighthouse or windmill. Donations are not cumulative so once a donation goal for a structure is met, any Bells donated in excess are lost and are not put toward the next structure.

Bridge[edit]

The player standing on a bridge

When the player donates 200,000 Bells to the town fund, a bulletin board message announcing the building of a new bridge is posted the next day. If the player selects the "Town fund!" option at town hall, they can vote between two or three preset locations for the bridge to be built at. All players in town can vote, and the location with the most votes after seven days is where the bridge is built.

Tortimer walks near the bridge on the day it is built. When spoken to, he says:

"Good news, <Player>! Our new bridge is finally finished! And today's the opening ceremony! However, since we spent all our funds on the bridge, we have none left over for a proper celebration. So, we'll just have to use our imaginations and pretend there are balloons and streamers and such. But giddy laughter is free, so please—drink deep from that well! Like so. Heh heh heh HORF HORF!"
"Oh, hello, <Player>. My sources have informed me that you're quite the little two-stepper. Why don't you show me what you can do by dancing a jig up on that bridge? Heh heh heh hoorf!"
"Walking across a brand-new bridge sure does put a spring in your step, sprout! Oodily doodily daaaaay!"
"Oh, what a happy, happy day!"

Fountain[edit]

The fountain, with Tortimer standing nearby

When the player donates an additional 400,000 Bells, Pelly or Phyllis will tell them the next day that a fountain is being built if they select the "Town fund!" option at town hall. After seven days, the fountain is built in front of the bus stop.

Tortimer walks near the fountain on the day it is built. When spoken to, he says:

"Good news, <Player>! Our new fountain is finally done! And today is the opening ceremony! Of course, I use the term "ceremony" rather loosely, as all our funds have been depleted by the fountain. But you should smile, because smiles are free! And because party hats cost money! Heh heh horf!"
"You DO know you can't drink the water in the fountain, don't you, sprout?"
"Throw a coin in the fountain, <Player>! We could use the revenue! Heh heh horf!"'
"<Town> sure has seen a lot of improvements since I first became mayor. Never let it be said that Tortimer ignores the little guy!"

Lighthouse or windmill[edit]

The lighthouse, with Tortimer standing nearby

When the player donates an additional 1,000,000 Bells to the town fund, a bulletin board message announcing the building of either a lighthouse or windmill is posted the next day. If the player selects the "Town fund!" option at town hall, they can vote to build either the lighthouse or windmill. All players in town can vote, and the structure with the most votes after seven days is built near the shoreline.

Tortimer walks near the lighthouse or windmill on the day it is built. When spoken to, he says:

"That lighthouse doesn't just light the coast for ships. It also lights up the hearts of the people of <Town>. Or something like that." (lighthouse)
"Let's hope it revitalizes our dear <Town>!" (lighthouse)
"Good news, <Player>! Our new windmill is finally done! And today is the opening ceremony! Of course, windmills aren't cheap, so there's no money left for a "party," per se. But standing around listening to your beloved mayor is just as fun, sprout! Heh heh horf!" (windmill)
"Let's hope the windmill breathes new life into <Town>!" (windmill)
"<Town> sure has seen a lot of improvements since I first became mayor. Tell me, what's it like having such an amazing leader?" (windmill)

If the player donates another 1,000,000 Bells, they can switch to the structure that was not built, and it replaces it after seven days.
