Trash in the Animal Crossing series are worthless items that can be caught while fishing. They cannot be sold for any Bells and mostly just take up pocket space. They, like Rafflesia, and rotten turnips, can be used to attract flies.

Appearances

In Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival and Animal Crossing

In Animal Forest and Animal Crossing, trash is a lot rarer than in the other games, but it does exist.

In Animal Crossing: Wild World

Trash in Wild World, when pulled out of the water, has the specific appearance of the item, though when dropped, all types of trash appear as a hunk of garbage. Trash is also more common in Wild World.

In Animal Crossing: City Folk

In City Folk, trash is uncommon. It serves the same purpose as in previous games.

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf

In New Leaf, trash says largely the same as in Wild World and City Folk, though a 100 Bell fee is required to dispose of it when selling, instead of it being free.

Functions

The only significant function of these items are their attractiveness to flies. If trash is dropped on the ground outside, flies may be seen buzzing around the trash later. Setting these items next to wilting flowers may help them come back to life.

Disposal

There are a few ways to rid oneself/one's town of trash:

  1. Go to Tom Nook and sell it to him. He'll tell you that he can't buy it, but can dispose of it for you. Accept, and he'll take it off your hands.
  2. Go to Tom Nook with something you're willing to sell and your trash. Sell him the trash along with your other item(s). Tom won't mention anything about the trash. Useful if you catch a tire while stocking up on fish to sell and don't want to waste time ridding yourself of the trash separately from the fish.
  3. Put it in the Recycling Bin or Town Dump and it will be gone by the next pickup time.
  4. Send it as a gift to one of your neighbors. They'll accept trash as they would any other gift, and often give you something useful in return. This is the most sensible solution.
  5. Send it to a friend's town, making it his/her burden.

Other

Any trash will never go into the lost and found, and will add to clutter in your town if it's dropped.
