The savings account is a feature in all Animal Crossing games that allows the player to deposit or withdraw their Bells, similarly to a real-life bank account. In Animal Crossing and Animal Crossing: Wild World, the player can go to the Post Office or Town Hall, respectively, and talk to Pelly or Phyllis to access their savings. In Animal Crossing, the player can only access their savings account after fully paying off their mortgage. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the player uses the Automatic Bell Dispenser (ABD), also known as the Bellpoint, found at the Town Hall, the Post Office, or Resident Services, respectively. The player can also receive a functioning ABD furniture item in Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf after saving 999,999,999 Bells and 100,000,000 Bells, respectively. 0.5% of the total amount of Bells saved is given to the player as interest on the first of each month, capping at 99,999 Bells. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as of the 1.2.0 update, the interest rate was lowered to 0.05%, and the monthly cap lowered to 9,999 Bells.
The maximum amount that can be held in the savings account is 999,999,999 Bells, in all games.
Shopping Card
In City Folk, after 10,000 Bells have been deposited into the savings account, the bank will send a Shopping Card (which is also referred to simply as a card) in the mail. This card functions in the same way as a real-world debit card, allowing the player to spend money in their savings account without carrying the Bells around. A Gold Shopping Card can be obtained by becoming a VIP at the bank, when a total of 1,000,000 Bells has been deposited into the account. It acts exactly like the regular Shopping Card. If the player loses their Shopping Card, they are able to go to the ABD and select "Reissue Card". They will receive a new card in the mail. However, the Gold Shopping Card cannot be replaced.

Rewards
After depositing a certain amount of Bells into the savings account, the player will receive a letter in the mail with a present attached as a reward. Items obtained this way cannot be re-ordered from the catalog.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are no rewards for passing certain Bell milestones.

Trivia
- On March 6, 2020, Animal Crossing player BrianMp16 became the first documented person to obtain the Post Model and the 999,999,999 Bells necessary to obtain it without the use of glitches or cheats.[1][2]
