Champ (さるお, Saruo) is a jock, monkey villager in the Animal Crossing series. His name comes from the word "champion", which goes with the jock personality. He appeared as a minor character in 🎬 Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori. He was originally intended to make an appearance in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, but was replaced by a new character called Flip.
Appearance
Champ is a small, brown monkey with a yellow paw print shirt. He is very similar in appearance to Porter, a monkey that runs the Train Station in Animal Crossing, Doubutsu no Mori and in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
Personality
Below is a brief description of the jock personality. For more information, click here.
He is a jock and enjoys surfing. Champ is great to be around, he always lightens the atmosphere. He is a true joker, but also can be serious in some situations. He is happy with almost anything. He is always working out or lifting weights. His catchphrase is the onomatopoeia of a train's whistle and a possible reference to the Porter's occupation.
House
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Champ's house has a red tile flooring and a backyard wall. He also has a Train Set, Alarm Clock, and a Rubber Tree along with items from the Office Set and Red Furniture Set. If given a stereo, he plays K.K. Salsa.

Merchandise
Like most characters that appeared on 🎬 Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori, Champ is available to buy as a plush toy and coin pouch, as part of the merchandise.
Theories
This section contains unconfirmed information or speculation. |
It is possible that Champ is Porter, due to their nearly identical appearances and Champ's interest in trains. Champ also does not appear in any of the same games Porter does (although he was planned to in Animal Crossing: New Leaf), and vice versa. This is contradicted in the Wii U app Animal Crossing Plaza, which portrays Porter and Champ with different birthdays.
It could also be possible that Champ hinted to be Porter's brother. Porter's e-reader card states Porter and his brother are rumored to switch places sometimes, though it does not specify who this brother is.
