The police station (交番 kōban) is a small, cylindrical building that appears in PG and NL. Its sole purpose is to accommodate the Lost and Found, a special service that stores items villagers may have found around the player's town. Players can claim all twenty items without consequences, while the maximum amount of lost items on display is twenty. The arrangement is from the oldest items to the newest items, and the most recent finds will replace the oldest unclaimed items. Items that can be found on display are stationery, clothing and furniture.

In NL, the police station is a public works project that can be suggested by any villager. It costs 264,000 Bells and can be built in one of two styles: the classic police station, a square wooden building; or the modern police station, a circular metal building like in nolink. Booker operates the classic police station while Copper operates the modern police station.

The police station is replaced in WW and CF by the Town Gate, which serves the same purpose as its predecessor and is still staffed by Booker and Copper. In NL, the police station makes a return as a public works project that can be erected at the cost of 264,000 Bells after being suggested by a villager of any personality. It now has two designs, with the classic police station run by Booker and the modern police station run by Copper.

Copper occasionally mentions Bust Illegal Parkers (B.I.P.), a campaign held by the police station to enforce parking laws, which are violated by Gracie when she visits town with her car.

On Officer's Day, Tortimer gives the player the police model,[nb 1] a miniature furniture model of the police station, and tells them that he built the police station and opened it on that day.

In New Leaf[edit]

Inside the modern police station in New Leaf

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the police station is a public works project that can be suggested by any villager. It costs 264,000 Bells and can be built in one of two styles: the classic police station, a square wooden building; or the modern police station, a circular metal building like in Animal Crossing. Booker operates the classic police station while Copper operates the modern police station.

In amiibo Festival[edit]

In Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, the police station can be built in the Board Game mode's town for 5 Happy Tickets.
