Autumn in Animal Crossing series starts on the 1st of September and ends on the 30th of November. During autumn, the trees begin to change color to an orange-brown and the grass frequently change color and turns dull. Insects and rarer fish start to disappear, being replaced with cheaper fish and insects such as the Pike and Monarch butterfly, making autumn one of the more quiet seasons in the series, rivaled by winter.

Weather
The weather in autumn consists of a mixture of clear, sunny days and some patches of rain. Snow will begin to fall towards the end of November, but will not stick to the ground until early December, in winter.
In September, (specifically the 8th in New Leaf) trees will begin to turn from bright green to a dull, musky green. In October (the 17th in New Leaf), trees will then turn a bright orange/brown color. Grass follows the same color pattern as trees, by turning a dull green color in September, then a dull purple in October. In November, the grass becomes a very dull pinkish-gray, and then in December, the ground, weeds, and clover all turn gray. Dandelions will disappear until next summer. The trees will often gradually change color.
